Yup, some people (like that pastor) don't get it .

    Here's my post again:

""That doesn't refute a word of my post you quoted:

""Yup, I bet when staring at death he got all repentant all repentant...after a life of doing what he damn pleased , harming others, ruining others lives or just not caring what problems his actions caused others and being a general PIA he's forgiven and to hell with those he harmed...Bad System."""

I was addressing the FACT that you said repentance gets you off the hook...I was not talking about those who didn't really mean it."""

Even those who mean it ""after a life of doing what he damn pleased , harming others, ruining others lives or just not caring what problems his actions caused others and being a general PIA he's forgiven...if he's truly repentant... a Bad System...

I was just adding ( and I know you don't believe in any of this) but people who are truly repentant, suffer for their wrong doings.

Human judgment isn't Gods judgment. Human judgment is faulty.

I would just be happy to let those that believe continue to do so and those that do not believe continue that.

Unfortunately, far to many are so concerned with what others believe that they try to force their beliefs on others.

If what you conceive to be true is so rock solid, just leave others alone. I do, and I am an atheist.

I'm guessing most people do. I know I do.
If the OP was truly fair...the compromise would be just like you stated.
...and there would have been no responses lol.

Which still doesn't make sense since those who DON'T repent suffer for their wrong doings (according to you)

    Yet humans still judge..

Jesus said often "my kingdom is not of this world". He had nothing to do with taxes. He said "render unto Caesar what is his." So who are you to speak for Jesus and taxation? He did hold "individuals" accountable to look to the needs of others. Are you doing your share as an individual?? You know, the nanny state is not going to shoulder your responsibility! It doesn't let you off the hook! Remember, every dime you give the nanny state money it lines the pockets of crooked bureaucrats! So you seem to have it out for the wealthy, Does that mean you desire to have what they have? That's not a reflection on them. It is a reflection on only you!

So what I believe has given me great joy and a purpose in life. Are you saying I should just keep my mouth shut about it while I am exposed to secular dribble all day long?
You may be an atheist, but I am sure you glorify whatever values you have. I am sure you state your opinions about a lot of things. I hear it all day long. I see it in advertising. You just want us that believe in something greater than ourselves to keep our mouths shut.....I get it.

You may be confused about the meaning of that phrase you only partially quoted.

And, you have grossly misjudged my means in an attempt to justify your cheap ad hom form of argument.

Let's remember that taxation is an absolute requirement of civilization, and that in America we have a representative form of government. So, we all take part in creating a system that helps those in need. I think we can discuss that, too, without resorting to name calling.

Cheap ad hom form of argument???? That's a slick way of getting out of addressing what was said. Could you please identify the name you were called? You are so oversensitive that perhaps you should bow out of the arena of ideas. Saying things that Jesus would levy taxes of any sort is a bit over the top. Perhaps you should go to a "safe place".

Actually, you know nothing about my beliefs or how I present them. You see, I don't inflict them on others like far to many theists do. I really don't care what you claim to believe. If you have to talk abut your beliefs to make yourself feel better, talk with others with your beliefs. Trying to force your beliefs on others merely exposes you theists for non thinking group that you are.

...meaning people get caught and pay for crimes here on earth.
Yes and obviously that's important for a safe civilized society. There's still lots of error with it and much pointless self serving judging by all people.

Name calling is only one form of ad hominem argument - read the definition. You went on and on with your silly straw dog in your proposition that I'm somehow hypocritical and greedy - a baseless attack on me, not the topic.

Further, you suggested tax dollars line the pockets of bureaucrats. But, our tax dollars go to purposes we the people determine to be important, as directed through our choice of representation. If our tax dollars are going to our representatives (over and above their compensation), that is a crime. The pocket lining is going on between those with wealth (including corporations that now have become people) and our representatives who by today's law must spend stupendous sums to retain their jobs.

Calling our social safety net "nanny state" can't be taken as more than an unsupported epithet against the help we give those who need it.

Need has grown with our population to be beyond the solution of individual acts of kindness, thus requiring us to be more organized in our approach. That can't be assumed to violate the intent Jesus demonstrated.

Tell me.... how is talking about things you believe in force beliefs on anyone?? You try to play it safe by implying you don't talk about what you believe so therefore no one can critique you. It's chicken s&*(.

Let's stick with name calling. You said it. It didn't happen. It is a nanny state when the government gets into the area of personal responsibility. Totalitarian Re gimmes love to take on personal responsibility. Don't act like healthcare is a right. Never has been.

You designed a whole straw dog, including assuming my income and suggesting I'm only in it for personal gain - painting me as a hypocrite and slacker.

That's pure ad hominem, it's insulting and it's monumentally false.

And, it appears that's all you've got, or you might try discussing the issue.

Typical of a theist method to force their beliefs on others, whether they want to hear them or not.

I only argue when attacked and you are coming very close to that point.

Your attacks verge on the personal. Keep your head in the sand and you may not have your feelings hurt by truth.

I disagree. Just as Christian missionaries/crusaders converted people, I think it is the duty of atheists to do the same. I think we need more militant atheists to get religious people to open their eyes to all this spiritual mumbo jumbo. We still have not had a president of the US that is an admitted atheist. Radical Islam is also terrible. I hope that Muslims become more westernized and wake up. The less religion the better.

Let's remember that only 17% of Islam lives in the ME, that the vast majority of Muslims in the ME reject the radicalism of ISIS (et al), that the violence we see has logical sources outside religion, that terrorism is a methodology that has sprung up in other religions when the situation becomes horrible (see Ireland, South Africa).

Even if only a small percentage of muslims are actually violent Islam tells them to use their wealth to fund the fanatics. So with a large population to draw from they can get $Billions in cash every month.

Surah 9:81 = "Those who remained behind rejoiced in their staying [at home] after [the departure of] the Messenger of Allah and disliked to strive with their wealth and their lives in the cause of Allah and said, 'Do not go forth in the heat." Say, "The fire of Hell is more intensive in heat" - if they would but understand."

Here's the Truth about you and me. I was invited onto this thread to discuss Jesus. You are on this thread to discuss your "unbelief". You want to say I am trying to "force" my belief on to others. Yet you say I have my head in the sand....does not make sense. At the same time, I could say you, by being here, are trying to force your unbelief on others and when you do that, you try to sound as if you are some kind of "neutral", kumbaya, get along with everyone type. Couldn't be farther from the truth. You have disdain for people of faith. you attack then put your own head in the sand and proclaim "I am innocent!" You passive aggressive snowflake types have a lot of growing up to do.

I believe atheists do that. No one lives in a vacuum. Atheists have several active groups. NAMBLA, Soros funded groups, ACLU, NARAL, just to name a few. If you want to counter me and say those groups don't proclaim atheism, just ask any of them....who is God?

No, here is the truth. You cannot stand that anyone would believe differently than you so you attack them to make yourself feel better.

You blindly follow what other have told you about religion without any proof whatsoever.

You were not invited into this thread, you just appeared. If that is not true, show some proof.

You do not know me at all yet claim to know what I think and how I feel and claim to know the reasons for this. This is a personal attack by someone presenting them self as a religious bully.

Outside of what you claim to perceive, show exactly where you think that I attempted to force anything on anyone. Show where I claimed anything about your alleged god other than I don't believe in him and how this was forced on you.

You can't, which proves you to be a religious bigot.

I would rather ask you, who is god?

Be exact in your answer and provide proof of your allegation. Physical proof, not what you choose to believe or have been told by your betters.

You have resorted to calling me a religious bigot but I maintain that the same applies to you. You do not operate in a vacuum but you represent the "godless" that would oppress others with your unbelief. You are a godless bully. You offer nothing in the way of hope beyond the grave. Your faith ends with your dirtnap which prior to, you step on the hope of others. You have attacked me from the beginning by stating I force others to believe as I do by merely stating my faith (the subject of this thread). You state your belief by proudly proclaiming you are godless. You blindly follow others that state we are all victims of chance and wander through our short lives with absolutely no eternal purpose. That requires faith, a faith you would force on others through ridicule of what they choose to believe. You have absolutely no proof of what you believe. Your faith does not trump anyone elses'. Get over it.
