We would have to build a hell of a lot project buildings.

    It would be horrible.

Mark needs to put his money were his mouth is. His worth about now is 59. 4 billion. If we divide that up by the approximate 330 million people in the USA that would be about $17,820 for each man ,woman and child. Will he do it ? Nah!

Bill Gates is worth about 86.9 Billion. Divided up that would be 26,070.00 for every man, woman, and child. Will he do it? Nah!

Jeff Bezos of Amazon fame 67 Billion. Spread it around to every man ,woman and child it would come to $20,100.00 per each. Will he do it? Are you kidding?

Warren Buffett has about 65.5 billion. $19,650 per person if he wanted to be generous. Will he do it? Nah

Larry Ellison of Oracle, a paltry 49.3 billion. Just $14,790 per person. Will he do it? Nah

I think all socialists should demand that these people and their friends lead the way. I guess the next step would be to make it tax free.

Senate? Nah. I don't think Zuckerberg wants to be a politician, he wants to do it Trump style; out perform the professional politicians and get elected President. He's not going to work his way up considering where he is now is in many ways far more powerful than the President.

Lucky that the United States protects them and allows them to indulge in socialism.

Without us they'd be scared shitless of Russia.

In a better world with a government that can be trusted, that is run by men/women of high morals and integrity then it might be worth exploring. Would be so nice to have all the basics covered and we can just work for whatever extras we want in life.

Sorry to say at this point in our evolution we humans are just not capable of pulling it off. We become anymore beholden to government than we are now, government will be able to do as they will because the will of the people will become that which the government will provide.

Once the people need the government more that the government needs the people ... game over. A case could be made that we are already there.

OK you are still thinking this is some sort of Milton Friedman/Charles Murray proposal, in which a universal basic income replaces all of the social welfare programs. The people who advocate this, like Zuckerberg, are thinking in terms of UBI as an addition to our current social programs.

Otherwise it's a bad deal for the poor. 10K a year is not going to replace Medicaid/WIC/Food Stamps. So what you'll get is another social program on top of all the other ones.

To the topic of what you quoted. A shorter work week will be a disaster for both businesses and workers. Lets quickly look at 2 scenarios.

    1. 20 hour work week considered full time. Employers hire added workers to make up the deficit in production. Average workers now have half of the money they had before, with all of the same bills. At the same time, businesses have to charge considerably more to pay for the added insurances, benefits, and taxes of more workers. This results in a massive increase prices of all goods and significantly more poverty nationwide.

    2. No change in weekly hours requirements for benefits. Employers hire added workers to make up hourly deficit and cut off all benefit packages to pay for it. This results in a slight rise in prices, but a massive pay cut for all workers. It also means no more benefits so a massive increase in bills such as health care. This results in a massive rise in poverty and a large reduction in spending on consumer goods nationwide.

Where is there a benefit here?
