I genuinely believe that most politicians in both parties are interested in public service. That goes for every president during my lifetime, until now. I believe that all presidents until Trump wanted to make America better. They differed in their ideas of how to do that, but I think they had real principles and convictions and wanted the best for the country.

Not now. Trump wants to stroke his ego and to use the office of the presidency to make himself even richer (or possibly get out of debt to his Russian handlers - that remains to be seen). So yes, when his family shows a history of lying about small things, it matters. That shows that they can't be trusted.
