http://www.telegraph.co.uk/news/201...assive-blaze-engulfs-block-flats-near-white1/ Please don't let this be a terrorist attack.
Not a terrorist attack...a horrific and avoidable tragedy. Who needs terrorists when we have Tories in charge? This is what comes of making a bonfire of building regulations and replacing them with "guidance" to save money for construction companies. Only Tory Governments of both colours would think that the way to avoid non-compliance with building regulations was to reduce the regulations and not enforce the compliance.
The police say there is no evidence that the fire was started deliberately. Many many Muslims involved in this and the heart breaking story of a Syrian Refugee , who may have been Muslim or Christian who had escaped here to survive and was studying civil engineering to go back to Syria when things settle to help rebuild it. His brother escaped but he did not. Totally heartbreaking.
They have just said that Fire Resistant panels would have cost just £5,000 more. Both the cladding and the way it was installed are under investigation as well as many other things. The people living in the nearby Towers are really scared. I put these two posts in the wrong thread
Well the LFB hasn't carried out any investigations yet. But the gas aspect is being mentioned more and more. Yes, it was, especially as he'd thought his brother was behind him during the escape. But I hope this doesn't go sour. The Socialist Worker anarchists were well in evidence with their anti-Tory exploitation as usual, and some of the well-dressed gobby women with their reflective designer shades were a bit too articulate to be considered erstwhile residents of Grenfell Tower; and a few others seemed as if they were on a '15 minutes of fame' trip rather than being grateful for the stuff that was flooding in from well-meaning donors. With the dire housing shortage it will be interesting to see what the government has in mind for getting them re-housed within 3 weeks, especially if more tower blocks are declared to be at risk too.
I believe I heard them saying yesterday that they had but were not going to release their findings as they were part of the investigation. However the Policeman in charge at the same briefing said there was no evidence that the fire had been started deliberately. I have not heard more. When I heard it being discussed they were saying that there should not be gas in Tower blocks for reasons such as this and that many councils had removed it. You are believing that an extremist Muslim decided to burn alive Muslim men women and children during Ramadan? You believe even an extremist could imagine this was a heroic act. The people who have lost their homes, their possessions and their loved ones are finding these suggestions that it was themselves who were responsible for the fire sickening.
et seq. I was expecting that. I wasn't believing anything, I was merely suggesting that it isn't beyond the realm of possibility. Jihadists don't care how many Muslims or religious celebrants they kill in their atrocities; on the contrary they try and kill as many as they can. Have you not noticed?
with respect to Cerberus trying to associate talking of gas in Grenfell as suggesting terrorism, I have had a look at what is being said http://www.independent.co.uk/news/u...i-london-kensington-chelsea-gas-a7794031.html and so rather than gas being suggested to indicate some form of terrorism, what has been being reported is that it was one of the safety concerns which the residents had had and had been trying to get support for. In their blog they spoke of there needing to be some terrible disaster before they were listened to which sadly was what happened https://grenfellactiongroup.wordpress.com/ That is the real world.
One thing that I think should be noted in the last few weeks. There are an awful lot of very decent people out there, prepared to help others with whatever they have. From the emergency services to common people in the street the UK can be justifiably proud of the way the majority of Brits have reacted. I for one am still proud to be British.
Why am I not in the least surprised that Cerberus is trying to blame terrorists? He would be a good candidate for membership of the public enquiry proposed...as he is already trying to deflect the blame to anybody but the government, the council, the management organisation, the contractors etc. In our real world, we have a situation in which £10+ million was spent on refurbishment of a tower block to tart up how it looked and not to address the fears over safety which had been pointed out over years by the tenants. I find it ludicrous that fire safety regulations have not, anywhere in the UK, had to be retroactively applied to high rise buildings built before the laws regarding sprinkler systems were introduced. What has to be addressed is not how the fire STARTED...fires start a lot...(I started one myself carelessly, once upon a time in the days before smoke alarms were obligatory in rented property).....but how it was able to spread and who was responsible for the speed/ease of spread and the lack of fire safety in the building. What also has to be addressed is the rancid attitude of certain editions of the print media and the UK right-wing, who treat their spewings as gospel and who are all over FB, twitter and forums blaming the "immigrant" whose fridge went on fire (or implying terrorism) and NOT the dereliction of duty of the private management company, the private contractors, the local council, the government which has been sitting on a report about the safety of tower blocks for the last four years etc... or even remarking on the fact that anybody in their right mind would be making and selling FLAMMABLE cladding material for buildings in the first place...or that anyone in their right minds would be buying it.
You are not alone in thinking that https://www.theguardian.com/media/2...enfell-fire-prompts-more-than-1100-complaints
60 more high-rise buildings at risk of catastrophic fire in London... UK finds 60 buildings at fire risk WARNED OF RISKS: An insurance association said it had told authorities that external cladding made from combustible material can cause fire to spread
So far, I've heard it to be 75 proven combustible cases of tested samples with a 100% fail rate and loads more (hundreds more) waiting to be tested too... If you ever come to the UK, these tower blocks are hard to escape.
Whilst it's undeniable that the cladding caught fire, I still believe there was some kind of propellant which was responsible for the unbelievable rapidity with which it took hold, rather than the cladding itself being responsible.
