Why would fully grown educated Americans listen to a politician who tells them to stay put in an area that consistently floods their houses? Anyone who had the ability to leave for drier areas should have done so on their own initiative. Would you have stayed put?
I'm sorry you had to spend 50+ years before you could retire. I started at Shell when I was 21, I'm 34 now and will be through there before I'm 60. <Mod Edit- Rule 2> United indeed. Texas is the largest state in the country that is a net giver to Washington. We'll take what we're owed when it's owed, or we'll stop sending it <Mod Edit- Rule 3>. I didn't vote for Sylvester Turner, but the vast majority of Houston remembers evacuating during Ike. It was 12+ hours of driving for everyone, and much longer for many. Then when the hurricane hit, it was completely the opposite of what was predicted. An evacuation of a city the size of Houston is never a good idea, only the areas that are at risk should be cleared, and many of them were.
Do your praying in private. Besides, it's Yahweh's will that people suffer. That's his way of showing that he loves them.
It doesn't make sense. What makes even less is that it was a politicized decision. One can make the general argument that for most of the interior population staying put was a valid thought. However telling those in mapped flood zones to hunker down is damn near criminal. Now comes the Mayor of Houston telling those underwater now to evacuate. HOW? Idiot.
Dayton, TX reported 39.72" at 7am this morning. That's the highest I could find so far. They may flirt with or even exceed 50" when it's all said and done.
Trump got us out of the nation rebuilding business in Afghanistan to focus on the killing terrorist business.
Leaving a power vacuum there . . . which will probably be filled by even more terrorists . . . which is exactly what he accused Obama of doing in Libya (back when he was lying about originally supporting the intervention in Libya)
That's true; could you imagine if they'd seceded from the United States like some of them wished for? Who'd they ask for federal aid? Highly unlikely they'd get anything from the fed's.
Perhaps I'm just taking this out of context, but did you really just take advantage of a tragedy to mock someone's faith?
Yep, once your car and the roads get flooded you're out of luck. The time to leave is before it hits. The problem with leaving that that the vast majority of people simply don't have any money. In the case of the Houston area it will be a long time before the water drains and power is restored. Then there's the problem of trying to clean the contaminated houses and drying out the wiring. Throw in the food and water issues and damage repairs and you have a major mess on your hands. I saw a Houston office building on fire. It's better if your house burns down instead of getting flooded without flood insurance. I doubt if people had flood insurance so they are faced with a major loss.
Navigating a protected waterway with a house. Or is it the tenting on a moving vehicle? I'm confused.
What I said is biblical. Matthew 6:5-8 = https://www.biblegateway.com/passage/?search=Matthew6:5-8&version=CEB Hebrews 12:6 (TLB) = "For when he punishes you, it proves that he loves you. When he whips you, it proves you are really his child.”"
Awesome: Weather Channel Reporter Refuses to Leave American Flag in Hurricane Harvey Debris..... The devastation in Texas continues, but glimmers of hope keep popping up as residents begin to cope with the aftermath. During a live shot over the weekend, Weather Channel Reporter Paul Goodloe found an American flag among the storm debris in Rockport, Texas. Instead of letting it lie on the ground, he rescued it by folding it up with a colleague. "I don't know how strong the winds have to be to cut a palm tree in half but that's what happened at the top of this tree. But next to it, we've got Old Glory. I can't let Old Glory sit there like that," he said. "The school is battered and so is the flag but we've got to fold this up and make sure this isn't a casualty to Hurricane Harvey." .....snip~ https://townhall.com/tipsheet/katie...among-debris-in-texas-put-it-back-up-n2374199
