The electoral college, if you understand it, is one of the only ways to even the playing field. What is IMO completely undemocratic, unfair and what probably hurt democrats more than anything was democratic Super Delegates. Super delegates in the Democratic Party are members of Congress, former presidents including Bill Clinton and Jimmy Carter, former vice presidents, and top officials in the Democratic National Committee. Super delegates are not bound by the popular vote in their states or congressional districts. Nearly one third of the democratic delegates were unbound super delegates who with their political influence and backed by super PACs of money, are easily able to sway one candidate over another.

If Clinton gave a damn about fair elections, she would have made certain that super delegates were abolished before running. It may not have changed the outcome but it might have given the old socialist, Bernie a fighting chance. Instead, it completely divided the democrats.

It is my opinion based on what I've read and watched on different documentaries. I'm just throwing it out there you can only watch/read for yourself. History channel has numerous docs and there are online libraries with numerous online books on presidential history. Lots of free presidential books to read.

I do not know and I guess that you also do not know if Clinton had the power or influence to abolish the super delegate system. Remember that each political party is a private entity and neither you nor I can tell them how to run their primaries.

You are both right: HRC was a terrible candidate that kept voters at home, and the electoral college, that makes it that you are no true democracy, must be eliminated.

I have said it before that Hillary needs to go away, make believe that she is a grandmother, and complete her chemo therapy sessions for her cancer. Or failing that just go Away!

Stop your bullshit. The OP is correct. The Democrat party would be thrilled to see the demise of the EC. It would insure that the POTUS would be elected by a few select liberal cities in the US. That is not trolling, it is just plain fact.

Certainly, there must be an in-between solution, like this thread's proposition of one vote per state/county.

So your problem with the electorial college is that you don't want places with population to have influence so you don't like the idea of popular vote deciding the election. Why do you support random swing states deciding elections instead? All that means is that if I don't live in a swing state my vote is basically irrelevant. The popular vote is better.

Equal representation! It is that simple. I have no problem with the Electoral College. I think it is just fine as it is. The popular vote for President makes no sense. In our state the last vote for Governor, the political map was painted about 85 to 90 percent red, but the blue counties elected the governor. It is wrong and downright stupid.

Sadly, Hillary is an angry, ignorant, stupid, vindictive, unaccomplished nobody.

Yet every single person in the House was elected (or re-elected) in 2016.

The Electoral College isn't going anywhere. We'll continue to have electors for the foreseeable future. If states wish to start apportioning their electors in some way other than the all or nothing style they currently do, that's their prerogative.

Donald ran circles around Hillary Clinton under the given rules. If it was a straight popularity contest he'd have changed his campaign plan and ran circles around her anyway. He won, she lost. It was inevitable.
