Remember the Sorcerer's Apprentice. He tried to kill off a demonized broom, but each time he broke it in half two replaced it!

I don't wish to come across as patronising when I say There speaks an American with true insight, as opposed to so many other Americans (no names, no pack-drill but Margot knows who I mean? ) with zero insight on the middle east region.

Sounds like BS to me, however the Alawites are above the law in Syria and very involved in drug smuggling and kidnapping.

Well 'you' have been killing many of these people and supporting many involved in Islamic terrorism over there. So it's quite hard for these people to wipe out Islamic terrorism when you destroy their air fields

You mean the video games I play are real and I am really destroying air fields over there? I guess I better go back to final fantasy.

IMO it can't be wiped out. IMO it is an essential part of Islam as fashioned by the examples of Mohammed himself. I believe the ego structures of many Muslims are dependent upon the actions of terrorists to affirm their own moral and religious superiority, and that this often operates on an unconscious level in them.

A similar comparison would be the sense of superiority many whites in the Southern US used to get when considering themselves superior to blacks. This is a feeling that was deliberately created in underclass white people by the wealthy, slave owning elites in order that disaffected whites would not unite with blacks in common cause for better treatment--and is probably the best explanation for why the present elites in the Democrat party structure go along with the racial splitting that is has been practicing since Obama took office.

It takes a major, unified cultural effort to get rid of something like that, even as it takes unified, cultural effort to add positive things, such as basic teachings of wise men and women to a culture-- one of the reasons for the shortcut of religion, as a cultural mnemonic device to preserve learnings a people has found useful. The methodology of the modern Western view of love was fashioned in part by the work of troubadours pushing courtly love, which became so popular it increased their earnings as wandering entertainers, even as religious leaders could use teaching religious concepts to obtain income. Similarly, IMO it is the methodology of Islam to push Islamic superiority and the moral value of its terrorists by widespread praise and monetary rewards.

This last is why I consider Islam as taught by Mohammed to be a false religion, since instead of leading to a state of trusting grace it leads to feelings of hatred of the other and the feeding of the ego (always a barrier to a state of grace). This does not seem to describe all Muslims, because a significant number of them are in sects which seem to have have gone beyond Mohammed in their teachings--but Mohammed is always there in the wings, ready to act as a backstop to progress when push comes to shove.

Seems to me that Islam hasn't progressed as far as other religions, so what do you suggest we do about the terrorists killing us around the world? Do you believe like some others that this is just the world we live in now and we just have to accept being killed by Islamic terrroists?

If Merwen doesn't mind my chipping in, I believe it's too late to do anything about them because they have snatched the initiative by consolidating worldwide. Now, if we'd nipped it in the bud when the jihadists launched their attack against Assad in order to acquire Syria for the caliphate, the west could have stopped the global takeover there and then.

Isolation until they evolve sufficiently to not need terrorism as an egoic boost to the average Muslim would be an excellent idea. There are some that have lived and worked here for years that are good citizens, but their offspring cannot always be trusted. Get as many as possible to return to their homelands, which often desperately need their skills, and expect our own kids to take the hard studies in school in their place. Encourage those that stay to provide their offspring with a nonpolitical, nonviolent form of Islam or another belief system to inoculate them against rabid fundamentalists invoking the putrid twists Mohammed's apostasy gave to his teachings.

Undermine the political side of militant Islam in the US, as this is not what our Constitution meant as "religion". Do not blindly allow radical Muslim fundamentalists that advocate violence to subsidize the construction of Mosques in this country through foreign contributions.
Only allow the construction of physical Mosques by Muslim sects committed to peace, such as the Sufis.

Keep Wahhabbis from their goal of taking over Islam in the US--a goal that was apparently sent well on its way under Obama.

Do not subsidize the importation or reproduction of Muslims into and in the US by any sort of tax funded schemes, and discourage charities from doing this. Right now, political Islam is using American law and resources against the average American. They are able to pull this off because American jurisprudence has not kept up with the political aspects of Islam, which make it not only a religion but also a political system.

Do not allow any Muslim into sensitive governmental or military positions unless they swear an oath of allegiance to defend the US against any adversary, including political Islam.

The trick would be knowing if they were telling the truth? Nobody can read another's mind! Islam already has the upper hand I'm afraid.

Freedom of religion unfortunately allows them total freedom to do whatever they like. If we decide that they are not protected under the constitution then why should atheists be protected by it?

How easy is it to swear an oath of allegiance to the US and then not follow it? An oath is only as binding as the morals of the person taking the oath. If people can swear to tell the truth in court and then get on the stand and lie about everything how can an oath of allegiance be trusted?

Protests popped up all over Syria right after the schoolboys were arrested and thrown in prison... That's when Assad ordered the protesters shot.

So then you do believe we should just accept the way things are and not do anything about it?

Wahhabis have NO ambitions to take over the US. You will recognize the rare crackpot because they talk just like you talk.

Assad tortured and imprisoned the schoolboys and killed protesters weeks before any jihadis arrived.

In response to your first statement, I said American jurisprudence had not kept up with this issue. What Muslims mean by "religion" goes beyond what is generally considered religion in the West. IMO Islam is as much political as religious, and an argument could be made that some sects use it simply to prop up their political schemes.

I can see CAIR and terrorists targeting any attorneys who try to bring about a constitutional distinction between the two, and it will be up to the rest of us to bring sufficient support to such a person. It's fairly clear that, for reasons of its own, the elite in this country is not on board to deal with this concern yet.

Regarding the oath and your perceived danger of Muslims lying under oath, IMO it will take several instances of this happening, after which it will become generally recognized that oath taking is not sufficient to allow American society to trust the statements of Muslims under oath. Other options would include lie detector usage, and those are constantly being improved.

Margot, you, according to your claims, are much more knowledgeable about the Saudis and Wahhabis than the rest of us. Can you explain why the Wahhabis are trying to take over the Muslim movement in the US? What is their motivation?

    In the US or worldwide?

If you mean in England, I can see your point.

So much of that is true but unfortunately so many in the world consider Islam a religion and would be unwilling to make any restrictions on it. With the attitude of so many on the left wanting to allow more and more in our country that trying to use limits on their religion would not work at least short term. What should we do about the terrorists in the short term to stop them?
