Enough with the sophistry. You claim that it's possible to prove a negative. So do you wish to demonstrate it and prove us all wrong once and for all?

    I claim that Zeus exists.

    Prove he doesn't.

Really? It's what you have been doing regarding atheism since the discussion started.

do you have anything to support your claim that Zeus exists?

first blush it sounds like an argument from ignorance

I'm beginning to think it's above their IQ level. We had a discussion (I actually missed it and was filled in later) in Psych 101 about morality, and there were six different levels of morality that people could fall into, with the sixth being the highest level. What was interesting was that those who were not in the sixth level could only understand one level higher than their own. Moral levels two levels or higher beyond their own were beyond their comprehension. The same may be true of logical comprehension. They can reach the level of "can't prove a negative", but cannot comprehend any levels of logic above that. For me, there were some levels of philosophy that I could not understand, or perhaps simply wasn't interested enough to work out. When philosophers start to discuss metaphysics, my eyes start to glaze over. What we're discussing here is epistemology, although no one has used that term yet.

Anyway, I would ask the same of your god, but we might end up with ten more threads on the burden of proof.

There is nothing further to discuss. Good day.

Yes I know, I think I have that page memorized its been posted so many times.

It does not change the fact you made a claim then said prove you wrong, it is the classical argument from ignorance fallacy.

I don't believe in Yahweh for the same reason I don't believe Zeus:

    Lack of evidence.

It's not my burden to prove Yahweh anymore than it is your burden to prove Zeus.

Reminds me of my grandfather who would impart on to me wisdom, some of which took me over 30 years to figure out, not as a matter of IQ, but some things I think need to be experienced at least on some level to understand the depth. It really does come down to depth of understanding imo which I realize is part and party to what you are pointing out. That is an interesting angle I am going to have to look into it.

Why did you demand that I prove Zeus, yet pardon yourself from such a burden when it came to your god?

Not in the slightest. I am correcting your. And if you can't see and understand that, then you will never have a chance for pearls. That's on you how it goes.

Atheism towards any claim is the normal response.

I didnt, you made a claim I merely asked you for anything what so ever to support your claim the discussion never went beyond that, I did not ask you to prove anything what so ever I asked for whatever if anything you had to show me with respect to your claim. Proof is a long way up the trail.

So when you claim a god exists, and I ask for proof, it's my burden to prove my disbelief in your god?

Yet the rules reverse for you?

    I don't follow.

Thats not true agnostic is the default position, I have no knowledge about zeus. I asked that you tell me about zeus so I would have knowledge about zeus, not prove zeus existed.

Only if you claim to be an atheist and take a position.
I never claimed God exists, I never took a position.
I neither affirmed nor denied the existence of deities.

This is interesting...I had no clue folks believed in the old Greek tales the philosophers helping others find peace in their lives. So, we need something to believe in for what reason? Why do we need a deity? Whose is best? Whose is real?

    yawn
you might have me confused with someone else since

    Atheists take a position
    Theists take a position
I never claimed God exists, or does not exist, I never took a position.
I neither affirmed nor denied the existence or nonexistence of deities.
