Yes, scientists are wrong at times - but unlike religions they admit they are wrong, change, and grow. Religions won't admit that god, for example, got acceptance of slavery wrong, dead wrong! A thousand years from now science will know far more than it does now....have patience.
Why should a fictitious character in a collection of stories be respected as anything? You may respect the New Testament authors for their thoughts, but Jesus was not a real person.
You know, certain cultures, certain religions allow you to kill for reasons that we consider murder. Take honor killings for example. If not for the Bible you may have been brought up on those other value systems.
I honestly don't think He will ever give you the cure for AIDS. You must find it. It's more like, here is your life and planet. Go to it. These are the rules. Bad things will happen, but you want to make your own decisions so have at it. I'll step back. Or, you could do everything and I mean everything I tell you at all times and have it easier. Which do you choose? So far, you choose no help. Then you complain.
I did mean Richard Dawkins - he writes about Charles Darwin and evolution a lot - but I understand how I made it confusing. I don't have the best answer to your probing questions about evolution, so I refer you to Dawkins.....but the Bible certainly gets evolution/creationism wrong - so many many holes in the story. "God" seems like a real idiot!
tell your children... if a politician tells you they have a God particle in their pocket, wanna see.... run the other way
I read Mein Kampf in the mid 80s. Terrible things happened but part fiction. Hitler was insane. I still study the Bible. And have lots of questions that will never be answered here on earth I'm sure.
Then why did four authors (and maybe more) wrote about the very same man with varying angles? An elaborate hoax? Was Mohammad such an invention? Plato? I think history tends to show that he existed (as a man).
2 Timothy 3:16 says "All Scripture is inspired by God". So I guess your god makes mistakes - doesn't sound so "all-knowing" upon closer inspection, it appears. So is the Bible wrong in that verse or is god wrong? Which is it?
Sorry I have never heard of the guy till now we were discussing the theory of evolution that was written by Charles Darwin. Since you seem familiar with Dawkins, I will ask you the same questions. Why is it just apes evolved? With the sheer number of species (8.7 million) on Earth shouldn't at least one more species have evolved into a walking talking being? Just one more question, if we evolved from apes, what did the apes evolve from? Where are their fossilized remains?
One magazine had Dawkins as the world's #1 intellectual....you've never heard of him? Considered the world's #1 atheist-related writer. You need to get out more.
"All Scripture is inspired by God"......The key words are "inspired by". Since when is inspired by mean God told him exactly what to write?
Then why let it bother you so much? Maybe this is hell and we are just trying to get back to good? Not saying this but who knows?
All species evolve, not just apes. Some evolve faster than others. Why did your god fail 99% of the time when designing species (99% of all species who have ever lived failed - became permanently extinct)? Or is evolution true - i.e. not designed by the 99%-failure god, so therefore the Bible is wrong and your whole life has been a delusion? Which is it?
I don't follow cult religions, sorry. Atheism is a religion as there is a belief that something doesn't exist without direct proof.
Consider this: You wake up one morning after a month of being sick and doing nothing about it. During the night, you had a slight stroke. It took away your ability to understand things like murder and racism. You head out and someone pisses you off really badly. You go home and get your shovel and go after them. When you find them, you swing and slice his throat with one swift slashing stroke. Of course, you don't get rid of the body. You've had a stroke and don't think properly. You are sentenced to death in a court of law and a state where it is part of the justice system. They inject you with chemicals after being strapped to a table. You slowly feel sick and start to foam at the mouth. You vomit and cough, dragging some stomach acid into your lungs along with half chewed steak you had for your last meal. Your eyes go dark and you can't see. You can't breath, even though you gasp for air. Finally, after forty minutes of this, and two more doses of chemicals, your body collapses and ceases to function. When you get to the "pearly gates", you are told you have not sinned by killing that person? When you get to the "pearly gates", you are told you did sin. Which would be correct?
Here's a starting point: Rukwapithecus fleaglei I look forward to you learning more and more about science, and then becoming a Modern Secular Humanist like I did. It's a wonderful journey - from magic to science.
