What do you guys want? Do you want a color-blind, nation-blind immigration system that ONLY focuses on merit, education & skills? Or do you want an immigration system that focuses on white people, regardless of their skills and merits. Please, tell us what you want. Cause if we have a purely merit-based system, the vast majority of folks let into the USA will NOT be white.
Your poll really only offers one side of what I see as the immigration issue. All of the options will let immigrants in. People need to stay where they are. The planet is full and by simply shuffling people around on it will not make it a better place to live. I'm always wondering why people want to come to the U.S. One reason I have heard often is to have a better life. If they want a better life why not make it better where they are instead of coming here? Anyway, most Conservatives I know don't want any immigration.
Merit for selecting the individuals in the country and other factors for determining quotas for each country excluding skin color.
If half a million per year is thought to be a theoretically optimal flow but for the last 15 years you've had 2 million flowing per year, shouldn't that optimal flow amount be adjusted for at least a couple of years, to compensate?
I can't speak for all conservatives, but I want the RAISE Act. Since you keep bringing up race constantly, do you know of any immigration bill that restricts immigration to white people? No, you don't.
Do you have any analysis of the RAISE act in comparison to the tsunami of immigrants currently flooding into the country? Would it cut current levels to 50%? It does seem to be an unattainable bar for most poor people and most middle class and higher are perfectly happy and comfortable in their own lands. I realize a desire for "only the best and brightest" sounds great, but they are the hardest to attract. Few in the OECD would move if they are economically comfortable. You know how many norweigans immigrate to the US these days? Why would the want to? HOw much more ketchup can they buy?
Different conservatives have different priorities. Generally speaking, they want a combination of merit and drastically reduced levels of immigration, legal as well as illegal. If you only bring in, say, 50K immigrants a year instead of the current 1-2 million a year, it won't much matter what color they are. But we want the best and brightest, for sure. We're currently bringing in the worst and the dumbest, which isn't good for anyone except the countries they're leaving. Note that the Republican establishment is not in favor of reducing immigration. The Republican establishment is entirely beholden to big business, and big business likes cheap labor, and so favors high levels of immigrants as well as work visas for high IQ people, that they can work for a few years and then send away. But cheap labor is bad for the American working class. Restricting immigration levels would drive up American wages considerably. Would some companies relocate overseas? Yes, of course. Would some stay here and pay the higher wages? Yep.
Why do collectivist want to bring people here with no skills from countries ripe with crime and terrorism? No concern for the people already here. Notice all the race baiting? Brainwashed collectivist drones be like "Durrr... Trump is racist... durrr... he only wants white people here... durrr..."
Complains about collectivism. Offers only collectivist arguments about "countries ripe with crime" instead of looking at people as individuals and prioritizing the collective "people already here" instead of individualism.
I want people who will contribute to the country. I dont care if they are from England, Nigeria, or North Korea as long as they come to America with skills we need and a willingness to embrace the American dream. If all of the people coming to the country were black Muslims I would be fine with that as long as they fit the above criteria.
Then it doesn't matter what the crime rate is in the country of origin. Also, no one can win the visa lottery without satisfying a merit component, so you have nothing to worry about there.
The bill itself would reduce levels to 50% of current levels over 10 years. As for how many Norwegians immigrate to the US every year, oddly enough I do know since for another thread I had reason to Google it, but it's almost insignificant; just a couple of hundred a year. As for attracting immigrants from the OECD, I doubt we get many now, and that probably won't change. They already have it made, so few want to immigrate unless it's for a particular reason, not because they're desperate. But that goes to the reason Ronstar created this thread in the first place; RACE. He wants to point out that merit based system won't attract many whites, it will mostly be people from Asia. Well duh! That's the place on the planet that has a surplus of highly educated and trained people with not enough opportunity at home. But the whole purpose of a merit based system is to get the best and the brightest from the whole world. As THE number one immigration destination in the world, we have the clout to demand that. Right now our H-1B visas don't even screen for the best and brightest, just first to get their application in.
So the bill would simply adjust the minimum "points" bar to gradually reduce to 50% in 10 years? Don't get me wrong, I totally believe in establishing minimum criteria for all immigrants and have no problem with governments adjusting those criteria as they see fit. Did it ever occur to you that America is the number one immigration destination in the world BECAUSE it enables those lacking in opportunity and with few prospect in their native lands?, something they don't have? anyway in researching this topic i came across an interesting OECD summary. I learned something from it, perhaps you will too. http://www.oecd.org/migration/Is-the-United-States-still-the-land-of-opportunities-for-migrants.pdf Isn't theH1B visa program the one that trump uses to get his resort lackies?
Current law has a top numerical limit per year for each visa category which adds up to about 1.3 million people a year. I assume the raise act would also have a top numerical limit, selecting from the immigrants with the highest points in the point system. I don't know what other point that you're trying to make. Of course we have opportunity. But we would be a top draw regardless of opportunity.
You may have a point there Whites are a minority outside of the US and europe And economic conditions in europe are pretty good So most immigrants even with a merit based policy will come from non white countries Which is ok if they do not arrive in overwhelming numbers to radically change our culture
So? It will be a thriving and peaceful nation, with similar values to those seen in America in the 20thC (Asians are more conservative than white folk today). Why would conservatives oppose that?
