We can get rid of it, albeit it requires a Constitutional amendment. They've had years. This was a problem when Reagan was President. Nothing has changed because TPTB don't want anything to change.

Yeah, and it's something that democrats would never vote for.

They're now the party of putting foreign countries over their own.

Absolutely false and recall the war was over when Obama moved to the White House and he retreat and brought the troops home. The last Republican deficit in 2007 was just $161B and the appropriation for the war that year was $88B. Tax revenues soared after the tax rate cuts were fully implemented hitting a 15% increase in 2007.

Debt obligations may only be made by congress, yet you think it may be illegal for Congress to limit debt obligations?

    Please explain.

The Federal government hasn't been shutdown since the Barry-caides of 2013. The GOP has offered a clean bill and even additional CHIP spending. But, if dems want to shut it down, they have the votes to shut it down, just as they recently bragged!

Then let's tear down all the walls and fences we have and fire all our border and DEA agents.

They sure don't like owning the debt of the Obama Reign of Error.

By this point in his presidency Obama had run up $1,698B in new debt.
The Very Stable Genius Trump has only seen $549B in additional debt.

    Much Better!

What percent of Republicans voted no and what percent of Democrats voted no?

You can't veto spending that Reid and Palsi held back until Obama was sworn in.

They were so proud of Stimulus and Cash for Clunkers, signed into law in March 2009 by Obama, and now they want to count in under Bush's ledger?

    Sad!

The Wall Street/donor/"job creator" class always has it covered "either" way, the so called plan is always implemented by the corporate state, they don't really care who carries the water. That’s for the unsubstantial people to amuse themselves with as if it ultimately mattered. It is not an election year so much as it is an election society. Fweedumb.

Trump would have gladly signed the clean CR Dems obstructed. And still Trump will be fabulous, even through the shutdown. Being a Very Stable Genius, he will put on a clinic showing just how well he can run the Federal Government on $10M a day.

Dems obstructionism might force some layoffs of non-essential personnel so Trump can reopen the Smithsonian, though!

Either it is that they needed 60 votes to pass the continuing resolution to get to the reconciliation vote or its that they had already used up their 'reconciliation vote process' for this year. In either case they needed 60 votes to get the thing done. Not sure it matters precisely where in the series of procedural votes they felt short.

Debt Ceiling increases are a solemn duty, it is right to only do this with bipartisan support.
