About 730,000 people starve to death every year in America.

More than 15 million American children living in homes struggling with hunger
    https://www.sott.net/article/304994...ildren-living-in-homes-struggling-with-hunger
"Despite improvements over the past few years, the latest data show that more than 15 million U.S. children live in households still struggling with hunger. The policy statement identifies the immediate and potentially lifelong health effects of this pervasive problem.

USDA data released in September show that the number of children regularly getting enough food to stay healthy and active last year was its highest since 2007. The slight but significant rise to pre-recession food security levels underscores the effectiveness and ongoing importance of federal nutrition programs such as the Special Supplemental Nutrition Program for Women, Infants, and Children (WIC), the Supplemental Nutrition Assistance Program (SNAP) and school lunch and breakfast programs, according to the AAP. In fact, nearly half of all SNAP recipients are children.

"The health effects of hunger on children are pervasive and long-lasting, which is why our new policy urges pediatricians to take action in and outside of the clinic to conquer food insecurity and promote child health," said Sarah Jane Schwarzenberg, MD, FAAP, a lead author of the policy statement and director of pediatric gastroenterology, hepatology and nutrition at the University of Minnesota Masonic Children's Hospital. Health problems linked to hunger described in the AAP policy statement include:
    • Children who live in households that are food insecure, even at the lowest levels, get sick more often, recover more slowly from illness, have poorer overall health and are hospitalized more frequently.
    • Children and adolescents affected by food insecurity are more likely to be iron deficient, and preadolescent boys dealing with hunger issues have lower bone density. Early childhood malnutrition also is tied to conditions such as diabetes and cardiovascular disease later in life.
    • Lack of adequate healthy food can impair a child's ability to concentrate and perform well in school and is linked to higher levels of behavioral and emotional problems from preschool through adolescence.
"As is the case with many childhood health conditions, being malnourished or not getting enough healthy food early in life has effects that can last well into adulthood," Dr. Schwarzenberg said."

When you think about it aren't homeless people the nicest people on the planet? If they were mean they would simply walk up to the nearest house and whack the person upside the head and move in. Instead they live outside in the cold and rain and do without the basics. That's amazing.

The problem is that Far Left Progressives actually ARE stating things that are in the Marxist handbook and basically ARE socialistm

So moderate Democrats (I assume like yourself) are not taken seriously and you are thrown into the Far Left basket.

This is why I honestly think we are in for a big war coming up, neither side will listen to each other and both sides are painting the entire "other side" with a broad brush as either a "Commie" or a "Nazi".

Gonna be an interesting time to watch in history that's for sure

And now let's look at WHY these children are 'food insecure', in a nation with welfare etc.

I can't speak for America, but in my country, such kids are always from households where there are significant dysfunctions and addictions. IOWs, they have parent/s who are F-ups.

While we need to make sure these kids are fed (obviously), we should not provide any additional resources to their families. Feed the kids at school - the 'parents' can then continue to spend their welfare money on booze and cigarettes, as is their preference.

"The country turned toward socialism in 1999 and elected Hugo Chavez president. He championed populism, cut ties with the United States and cozied up to China and Russia, both of which loaned Venezuela billions. Chavez ruled until his death in 2013, and is still seen today as a hero for the poor."

Venezuela was the richest country in South America until 1999 when Socialism took over, now they have the problems they have. This is from hyper left leaning CNN too. Not sure if you consider CNN "intelligent, informed, compassionate, people..."

But their only argument back is that "The US is evil and they are having problems because of US sanctions." What other than socialism could that be? Honestly curious as to your opinion.

Is that honestly what you think will do it? Or are you trying to attack me and say that is what you think I believe? Did you see the Jordan Peterson interview? Thank god that happened, strawmen simply do not work anymore.

I clearly stated, if we want to try a universal basic income, I think we should do away with all other entitlements and figure our what this exact dollar amount should be.

However, if and when we do this, and people burn through their money, what happens if they come back and say "I need more money!" Do you give it to them? Do you let them die in the street?

What is the happy medium? We have to make people responsible for their actions, would you agree?
