In other words their policies are NOT what's best for the world, so they have to change said texts over time - I guess the Bible is wrong when it says that all scripture is "breathed on by god".
I DO know that God/Jesus is full of sheer hatred - hatred for all gays, period.....or w/in the last 2000 years that utter psycho would have simply snapped his "all-powerful" fingers and said "ok, look, we got it wrong regarding gays in 1 Corinthians 6:9-10 - so from now on love gays as equals since we are now letting them into heaven and avoiding hell - please forgive us." I'd forgive him, because I'm more forgiving than God/Jesus is.
A vastly amusing question. No, hell doesn't exist because god doesn't exist. Heaven and Hell were nothing more than tools to keep the peasantry in line. If you do whatever you're told you get an eternal reward in heaven. If you don't, you burn in hell forever. Obey the church in all things or roast in a lake of fire for eternity. Pretty transparent scheme. The reason the pop has suggested hell doesn't really exist now is because the Catholic Church, LLC is in some trouble and has been for half a century. People are now smart enough to wonder how a god who loves us so much could ever send us to suffer in agony forever. People are wondering why a god who is the all powerful creator of everything would create a situation where his beloved creations might suffer for eternity. People are wondering why an all powerful omnipotent god will send us to burn forever if we aren't nice enough during our lives. People are wondering why an all powerful diety would create some of us with certain traits that would inevitably have us ending up in hell (i.e. being gay or being vulnerable to committing suicide). Its all a flimsy house of bullshit and if he doesn't disavow it it will all just come crumbling down. Shrewd business move.
You and Nonsensei of course may believe your faith of atheism; it is your god-given right. You are right that atheists cannot proved a courtroom level of evidence that He does not exist.
Can you prove that Allah doesn't exist? Can you prove that these gods and goddesses don't exist? https://www.buzzfeed.com/donnad/the...ver-heard-of?utm_term=.sipLMW0LM6#.rdgvVn5vVQ Why are you an atheist when it comes to them?
God didn't write the Bible - not one word. You don't believe God exists so why are do you attribute Biblical writings to God? Never mind. We've had this discussion and you're like a floater that just won't go down the drain spouting the same boring drivel in countless posts.
I don't have to prove anything to atheists because even with their faith in their belief they have nether the language, logic, nor symbols to disprove deity. Wyrd, I am not an atheist, and I don't recognize your authority in matters religious.
I agree. I behave because I like to behave not because I'm threatened with a terrible punishment if I act like a human and make errors...
For some people hell is here and right now, they live in hell.....how nasty to think they should suffer once they're dead for some human error they may have made..
I have my personal set of ethics and follow those. I'm not perfect, but I'm a pretty decent person and answer to myself. The entity that keeps me in line is me. I need to respect myself and like myself.
Well, there haven't been many changes to the Biblical text in many centuries (the invention of the printing press made that difficult), although artifacts of prior changes, redactions and additions remain today. These days, theists employ apologetics to "change" what the words mean, at least what it means to them. For example, they declare literal text as allegory, or cherry pick a group of passages while ignoring other contradictory passages, or use fallacious reasoning, or lie, among other tactics.
“Every Scripture passage is breathed-out by god”, or “All Scripture is inspired by God” - says 2 Timothy 3:16-17. So can we agree that the Bible got it wrong? And if the Bible got it wrong, then Christians would be delusional, correct?
If you were in Jesus' current allegedly all-powerful/all-loving position, would YOU, Canell, change the criteria for who goes to hell (i.e. all Muslims, all Hindus, all atheists, all Buddhists, etc.)? I would, because I care about Muslims, Hindus, atheists, Buddhists, not just Christians. Do you? Please let us know.
But Christians apparently lack the moral courage to simply, in new additions, not bring forward the barbaric parts that hurt the world - such as kill gays, approval of slavery, women being told to shut the hell up in church, etc. Intellectual cowards.
Historically, Hell did not exist. It was made up by Paul who adopted it from old greek roman beliefs about Hades. Jesus himself never mentions hell. He only talks about death as an end and as opposed to eternal life which has no end.
You think it is Christian to attack someone because they see things differently than you do? You think that's what Christianity is all about? You think that's what Jesus taught? To suggest someone is mentally ill because they don't see things the way you see them? You think there is inner conflict and mental illness because a person has the personal strength to live life without the fear of punishment by some imaginary entity? This is why so many people despise religion and religious people, because they are such intense hypocrites and are not in anyway spiritual, religious or Christian.
They suffer for, get this, picking the wrong god out of the thousands and thousands on offer - yet not ONE god in history is real enough to simply provide a court-room level of evidence for his particular existence. The scam will unravel THIS century.
So then if the religion that bares his name ("Christianity") gets it (apparently) all wrong, if YOU were in Jesus' current alleged all-powerful/all-loving position then YOU'D come down immediately and tell the world (because you love us so much) that the Bible/Paul got it all wrong....correct? I would - I assume that you love humanity as much as I do, GrayMan?
You misspelled Francis' title - I think it's properly spelled "Poop". You're welcome. Best post of the week, by the way.
God/Jesus was probably mentally-ill because that psycho setup, and/or approves, of a system whereby good, hard-working, ethical people get brutally tortured alive simply because God/Jesus is to uncaring to provide a courtroom level of evidence that he exists and is more real than any OTHER of the thousands of claimed gods.
We base stuff on FACTS, not FAITH. We aren't afraid of our eventual natural deaths like religious people obviously are (they believe unscientific stuff like "hell"), so we are too ethical to believe in religions that approve of torture, killing gays, genocide ("the flood", and also the Amalekites, etc.) PS there is no "god" to give said rights.
