Well if you are seriously asking that because he changes his mind all the time would be a good start. Yesterday he was all but daring Russia to attack US forces. Today he is suggesting there may not even be an attack.

OK. What do you make of him changing his mind like that?

Mandarin orange segments is more like it.

Only you know what're you're trying to say, Peter. Few others have a clue.

Let me know when you are able to put a proper English sentence together. I like a surprise.

If you are trying to get me to eventually see that there are cooler heads behind him I accept that although to be honest from what I have been hearing that may not necessarily be true of key players he has recently brought it so even that cannot be relied on.

It also makes it far more difficult for China and Russia to guess what is going to happen and they presumably will make arrangements to deal with the worst possibly outcome. That is a dangerous situation.

Why can't you just answer to my question? I asked your opinion about the president's rapid change of mind.

    Ante up...

A better question - and perhaps this is what you're getting at? - is why would Trump want to be predictable?

It's always better to keep your opponents guessing, and there's something to be said for the willingness to be flexible and to adapt to changing conditions on the fly.

I would say the people surrounding Trump are more hawkish than he is.

    Maybe, maybe not.

Sometimes anticipating the worst outcome makes one more eager to avoid it.

It remains to be seen if the Americans are blinking or just being more circumspect in telegraphing their actions? Of course, since the Americans will have to share a bit about their plans with the Israelis, I would wait until Israel is no longer under high alert before deciding that the US has figured it won't be getting away with an attack on Assad without any repercussions.

I mean we're on the verge of a huge shift in global order. Sure not one single leader of any global power would be predictable at this time. Where I'm trying to get to with the question is "what determines" the unpredictability.

I agree. But I believe this applies to a reality different than ours because there's still a pax of diplomacy governing the globe.

It will never make sense for China to join.
The main advantage that they possess is their numbers - it’s hard to fight them on their land. But to project such power on distant country you need to have some serious logistics. It would be difficult for China to send its troops to Syria or the US, if that’s where you are hoping it’s going to.
On the other hand, China really likes Siberia and for them to take it they just need to walk across the borders.
It kills me that Russians like to think Chinese got their backs, when in reality China is much more likely to join the US for a giant piece of land instead of fighting its main business partner. But whatever, keep repeating yourself in hopes your convictions become true.

China has no interest in Syria politically or economically, so they wont send troop there.
as for their military capabilities, as long they don't go up against US, they have enough resource against rebel, especially if Syria government provide base to china like they did with Russia.

Russia/China are partner mainly because they have a common rival, US. So its the enemy of my enemy situation. as long as US treat both as enemy, both will ally with each other against US.

The irony is during 80s we were partner with China against USSR, which cause significant USSR resource divert to sino-soviet border from NATO front line. USSR become over extend itself at all front, one of the reason it collapsed.

with china and Russia been partner now, meaning Russia only need to worry about Nato/EU frontline, while china take care west pacific. China has $$$ to invest in Russia, while Russia has resource china needed in the event of US blockade of China energy Sea route.

Sick as Kasparov in 1994 when he took Kramnik's e4 pawn with his knight on the f file, leaving his "queen" wide open to Kramnik's bishop positioned at h4, just on move "12"...

Do you know how the game ended up on move 39?

That’s my point. Russia and China aren’t even friends. In hypothetical scenario where war starts what would China do? Join Russia for a promise of cheap gas, or join the US if US tells China that it can cross that border and take anything it wants and after war new Chinese borders will be recognized by every country in the world. Chinese are very practical people and won’t do anything unless they see good payout at the end.
Russian hopes of Chinese alliance are just hopes not substantiated by any reality.

How did Trump deploy troops to Syria? He wasn't President. Only one President brought troops there when we were NOT IN THERE TO BEGIN WITH.

I'm glad you admit Obama royally ****ed up by deploying American boots to a nation we have absolutely no business being in. Much like every other nation he sent drones to

if war started, they likely would be neutral, but provide aids/$$$ to Russia if they determine its in their interest. Cause after US-Russia war, US will target China, it already did. So it would depend how china see US at that time. If china determine US bound to get china, then they might just join the war. It depend on the situation. likewise Russia will not join sino-US war either, but they likely sell gas to china.
but after that war, the next war will be fought with stone/sticks. and population probably 7billion-3/5billion.

The US doesn't want to go to war alone - not against Russia.

IMO heads of states everywhere in the occident are appearing to give in to Trump, but in fact they try to restrain him, gaining time.

You're the ones that decided to get involved in Syria, even going as far as attacking its legitimate regime and back Islamists.

Russia is there on the legitimate Syrian regime's invitation, to defend it against said Islamists.

    The aggressor here is you.

Russia and Assad like to pretend that there are only terrorists opposing Assad. Of course they would do that to try and legitimize their bloodshed and keep that dictator in power.
