That is so typical of a Trumpian. Throw all our allies under a bus, withdraw from all multi-lateral trade agreements, and isolate America. MAGA!

That is what Trump wants, and that is what his base wants.

That policy is a disaster, which is why it is being ignored by the Pentagon and Trump's advisors. They know it is a policy that will lead the U.S. over a cliff. Insistence on this policy is why Trump can't get good help, and the turnover rate on his staff is 45%.

Only fools want to isolate America.

I acknowledge the fact your vast knowledge of seemingly everything related to President Trump puts you above all of us deplorables but as some commoner laying in a vomit filled gutter once uttered, "suck it up buttercup", go win an election.

The trade and foreign policies are working just fine. How the post modern left concludes isolationism is bizarre.

You are afraid of a stronger America which insists on being treated fairly in trade ?? Curious that. What is your alterative proposal ??

Sorry, but irritation concerning isolationists isn't blowing air up any skirts.

Arguments against isolationism might work, but right now, Trump is hardly isolationist enough for my tastes.

    Plus we have full employment.

What seems to be the problem? Is there a problem? Is success a problem?

    Are Trump's tariffs the problem?

And all that relates to this thread how? See post #35 before replying.

We are dealing with today, not the 20th Century.

In the OP, I said, Donald Trump and Shinzo Abe have failed to reach a deal which would exempt Japan from the US’s steel and aluminium tariffs.

Trump said the current trade deficit between the two countries was too high to merit an exemption right now.

Japan remains the only major US ally which is not exempted from the 25 per cent tariff on steel imports and a 10 per cent tariff on aluminium imports.

Most other key allies, among them the European Union, Canada, Australia and Mexico, have already been granted exemptions to Mr Trump’s protectionist measures.

Why is Trump doing this to a valuable ally of ours in East Asia? Like some kind of brainless thug he is using threats on an extremely important ally. Along with South Korea, Taiwan, and The Philippines, Japan is a check on the aggressive trading tactics and geographical expansion of China. His policy makes no sense. Why is he driving a valuable ally into the arms of China.

The answer lies in Trump's dislike for Obama. Sixteen months after the Obama administration became a footnote in the history books, Trump is still attacking Obama. That is Trump's nature.

The Obama administration spent eight years formulating a foreign policy vision that called for a central U.S. role in Asia to ensure the region’s stability, growth, and prosperity. Known as the “rebalance to Asia,” the policy involved coordinated efforts to boost U.S. defense, diplomatic, and economic ties with the Asia-Pacific.

Along with taking the U.S. out of the TPP, Trump is out to destroy everything Obama tried to do in Asia. Ironically, Trump now realizes his mistake and wants back into the TPP. Problem is, the current members, which includes China, do not wish to renegotiate the terms of the agreement to allow the U.S. back in.

:roflol:I see. Since you got a tax break, you are willing to pay for Trump's tariffs.

I'm going out on a limb here and saying you voted for Trump.

I asked you a question. What is the problem Trump tariffs are supposed to solve?

4% unemployment is considered to be full employment.

If you have a question about the tariffs, read the OP. That is what you should have done in the first place.

Now answer the question if you can.

****, tax hurts don't it. Thankfully this time it's tax which goes against the push for international federalism, such that a broader, more diverse segment of the community can experience the pain of taxation.

Tell that to Trump. His tariffs are hurting the American economy, farmer, and factory worker.

    Did you read the OP?

The threat of tariffs is a negotiating tool to encourage other nations to reduce their tariffs on US exports. I have answered your question many times.

The threat of tariffs is not hurting the economy.

That is what Hitler, Tojo, and Mussolini did. It didn't work out too well for them.

That is what Trump is trying to do. The result: He is the least popular President in modern American history. His approval rating with the people who live in countries friendly to ours hovers around 20%.

But you think nationalism is a good idea. I bet you voted for Trump.

Yes he backed out of the TPP because it was supposedly unfair to America which gave China a great advantage. The realizing his stupidity he tried to get back in and nobody cared. Another master negotiating stroke by the great negotiator.

It hasn't worked out too well for Trump. In 16 months the great deal-maker has signed one trade agreement with one country. That happened recently with South Korea, a country that depends upon the U.S. for its very survival. Big, freaking deal. That's like a parent making a deal with their kid.

Trump has pulled us out of the TPP. He now recognizes that as a serious mistake and he wants back in. He is threatening to take us out of NAFTA, which would be a disaster for the American consumer and farmer.

Threats do not work well with nations. They have a tendency to remember such behavior and do the very opposite of what was desired. For example, the members of the TPP are not inclined to renegotiate the deal and allow the U.S. back in.

    See what I mean?

So tell me all the successes Trump has had with his great negotiating tool.
