That is a very succinct and good summary. Is the memorial just about hammering a political agenda or is it actually about remembering the victims? The perfect example was the 9/11 memorial that was ostensibly based on a real picture of three firefighters raising a flag but then racists decided that simply honoring the men in the pics wasn't enough and replaced two of them with one black and one hispanic (not sure how Asians, Arabs, Indians etc.) got left out but they probably aren't big enough voting blocks for the racists to care I guess.

I care. We need to remember our past, the painful parts and the pleasant parts.

There is nothing to be ashamed of in being a victim either. The one who should be ashamed is the victimizer.

Thank you for posting this video. I would not have chosen that title. I would have titled it: "America's Tragic History: What we must not forget".
But, it's still a great video.

There sort of is if that is the only thing you've got going for you.

In any case, the victimizers are all dead and beyond caring if you shame them or not.

Of course the victimizers don't care. The memorial is not for their benefit. It is for the benefit of the descendants/community the victims left behind.
Those lynching victims were human beings who had family and friends who loved them. The memorial is important to them.
The memorial is also a great history lesson.

The family and friends are also beyond caring.

I don't see much good happening beyond exacerbating racial animosity.

Yeah, we get it. You're a rock. You have no feelings.

You think that makes you a "man"?

Why do whites need to atone? Was several hundred thousand fighting to end slavery, most northerners were enslaved into the military as soon as they immigrated, not enough? Was being a third of those who were lynched because they were fighting for equal treatment not enough? This is rhetorical cause I am sure I know what truly is "enough", but when will enough be enough atonement? Especially for the whites that had nothing to do with the past atrocities? Have democrats atoned since they have always been the party of oppression and identity politics from Jackson till today.

The victimizers' bodies are out of reach from habeas corpus and law enforcement. In the present day when there are few of them, the victimizers are usually caught and have to answer for their crimes.

The Memorial and Museum is to the benefit of anyone who will look.

When there is a summary for the eyes all in one place, it can't help but imprint the history of something on the beholder more than hearing a bit here and there.

The families and friends DO still care. If they didn't care they wouldn't have wanted this memorial. This is part of their history.
The racial animosity and hatred has always been there---that was why all those people were lynched.
History is painful sometimes. But we can't run from it.

The victimizers may not victimize the victims without being outed and punished in various ways.

Well that was a revealing post! You are actually faulting Pycckia for not harboring deep seated ethnic resentments! Opinions like yours are why the human race can't progress. You are constantly wanting to plunge the world into conflict over centuries old grudges.

Give all the land and real property back to the native Americans. You can't do better than that.

A laudable goal. Have you contacted a local tribe about signing over your home, and making arrangements to leave the country?

It is one thing to remember and learn from crimes of the past. It is another thing to memorialize them.

So in other words, you don't really believe you should have to atone. Why did you indicate that you did?

The memorial does a reminder of the crimes, memorializes the victims, and promises to make sure the full story is told.

70 years ago is "ancient history"?

by your logic the Holocaust took place during the Bronze Age
