My daughter is a high school counselor and is involved in a program called avid. It takes kids who are very bright but do very poorly in school and they commit to this program where they get tutored, counseled etc. these are the kids who would fall through the cracks in this huge high school. This year every single senior has been accepted to college and they told my daughter that they never dreamt they could ever go to college. The program Is incredible, so once again the funding is cut . But fortunately the principal has channeled money from other things to put into this incredible program.

There are probably an equal amount of rich folks who abuse the system....bet that’s why trump won’t show his tax return

So you can't prove what you are saying, like most of the people who post here you make things up.

I tend to use common sense. Do you think that the rich do not have great tax loopholes?

BS. The people that put an American on the moon and gave us the internet and the tech revolution were products of the education system of the 1950's and 1960's when it was all about reading, writing, arithmetic, and the student teacher ratio was irrelevant.

Studies of the correlation of student-teacher ratio and performance are mixed, some show improvement, some show no improvement.

The ratio is touted as important not because it is important, but because its one of the few items that can be manipulated by politicians.

Typical "progressive" lunacy. Its not the role of public education to teach kids to be "socially responsible" - i.e., brainwash kids.

If you want your kids to see there is hardship in the world, then have the kids spend a day a month volunteering at a soup kitchen or food pantry or at the Salvation Army. Don't abdicate your responsibility to the govt, be an example.

So churches aren't actually given anything. That's what I thought.

    FoxHastings said:
Yes, they do. If the churches were taxed, as everyone else is, they'd owe lots of money to the government.

But the government "gives" their money back by not making them pay their fair share....the churches use everyone else's money by not paying taxes, they're moochers and "on the dole"

Oh, gosh, this must be too deep.

YES, in a way the church gets "checks" by getting stuff for free that the rest of us have to pay for.

When a poor person goes to the food shelf to get free food , they don't get a paper check, they get a benefit which is like the government giving them money.

Which is exactly what churches do.

    Obviously there was no "thought"...…..

If you do NOT understand "tax break" then nothing I can say will break through...

If you don't understand all the things churches use without paying for them then a detailed drawing wouldn't help. Churches telling you all the things they get for free, such as the street their building is on , wouldn't get you to understand...…

Churches are freeloaders, the Biggest Welfare Queens next to the military...

If I am told by the government that I don’t have to pay any taxes than I sure as hell would think I’m being given something

I completely refuted your defamatory allegations about the Koran and Muslims in the post following the one you just replied it.

That all you have are puerile ad homs and baseless attacks on others says volumes.

Your daughter is making a difference and you should be proud of her. At my daughter's HS they had a similar program that was/is highly effective in ensuring that bright, but troubled, teens were able to complete their educations and yes, most of them subsequently go on to college. Programs like this are essential in schools that are becoming too big to understand that they are teaching INDIVIDUALS and that they need to be treated as such.

Your posts are very colorful and exaggerated for someone who is wrong. As they say, the more wrong you are the more excited your posts become.

    You nitpick.

It was in the 1970's that public education began to focus on non-educational issues such as "social awareness". Before that, public education was all about reading, writing, arithmetic, and nobody worried about student-teacher ratios.

The current society is the product of people educated under the old system. The new system produces kids who cant get a job, spend all their time texting on their phone about transgenderism, and live in daddy's spare bedroom.

As expected, you have no response. You cannot prove the student teacher ratio is correlated with performance, because it is not. And you are too lazy to search it on the internet.

All you can do is make weak personal attacks.

    You FAIL, as always.

Heavens, what could be worse than schools “brainwashing l kids to be socially responsible. That’s why my students volunteered for a cause as part of the curriculum. Not every parent can bring their kids . There are many parents who think bigotry and discrimination are good social values. There are many parents who think science is a hoax ..there are many parents who deny history. They should all homeschool

    Typical "progressive" bs.

You think the only place people learn is in the public school system? What a moronic attitude.
