Germany is not and equal trading partner with us the u.s. is the globe hegemon end of the US economy isn't dependent on exports especially late lifecycle exports.

China is desperately poor and with the weak Euro and the social problems that are about to boil over in Europe especially Germany Merkel should be scared if she had any sense she would be scared.

And economy with a week non nationalistic currency that's dependent on exports cannot afford Toulouse the US as a customer. I'm thinking Donald Trump is banking on the hopes that Merkel tariffs exports then he can find German Imports and that brings German economy to its knees.

It doesn't do much damage if any to the US economy.
