What part of our culture is dissolving? Our nation has continually changed over it's entire history. Anyone who reads that history knows that many "white Americans" looked on with anger and dislike that the Wops and Micks were coming over and "dissolving the culture of our nation".

There's a lot of thievery in Brazil. Did you hear the latest news? At a World Cup award ceremony one of the athletes got their gold medal stolen when he set it down on the table in front of him, immediately after he had been awarded it on stage, and despite all the security and cameras present at this big event. (In Latin America the World Cup is practically like the Nobel Prize Award Ceremony)

 

The percent of blacks in the US is 12.6% while MA is 8.8% so not drastically different. US Asian pop is 4.8%, MA is 6.3%. US Hispanic is 16.3%, MA is 11.2%. In other words...whites do NOT make up 99%. In fact, white (non-Hispanic) is 73%....US white (non-Hispanic) is 72.4%.

 

Is there a law that makes one assimilate?

 

Read some history; proper "white" people considered wops and micks to be subhuman, not "white". Same for gypsies and anyone with excessive body hair.

 

No, there isn't.

That said, it's best that newcomers be both accepted by the nation's population, but also that they assimilate to that nation. Sure, they can share their culture with others in the "melting pot", but to simply cut themselves off from their new country's culture is as wrong as the new country not accepting immigrants.

You do realize eventually it will come to the point that they're not safe in the other country they've moved to either?

There's a big fundamental flaw in thinking that because the crime rate is so dangerous in one country we can solve the problem by moving the people to another country.

Ingraham’s divisive and racist words could incite more hatred towards immigrants in the US, particularly those from Central America and Mexico who are falsely singled out by conservative pundits as fueling crime and stealing jobs.

What appears to be lost on Ingraham is how hurtful her words could be in her own home. Ingraham’s daughter, a young teenager, is an immigrant. She adopted the girl from Guatemala in 2008, when she was a 3-year-old orphan, and described her action at the time as the “best thing I’ve ever done.” She was even learning Spanish, she said then."

Don't live in VT so don't care or know about VT. That being said...what do you think it proves that there are less minorities in VT. Why do you think there are less minorities in VT? Do you think Vermonters are doing something specific to keep minorities out?
There are 50 states to choose from for less than 30% of the population. Point being there are going to be some areas that have more or less of certain ethnic groups. It would be impossible for EVERY state to have an equal % of minorities, wouldn't you agree?
My point was that the poster was wrong to assume MA was 99% white.

 

There also aren't that many minorities in Massachusetts, outside of Boston.
As already mentioned before, over 84% of the state's total African American population can be found in that one metropolitan area (and mostly certain neighborhoods of that area, the city is highly segregated).
