Specifically, I want to know how many are voting with their feet. Have you 'walked away' from (or reduced your use of) any media in response to learning that it is deliberately censoring the political speech of its users? I am trying to. It was more than an hour last night that I spent watching some history stuff online before I realized I was watching youtube in direct violation of my own boycot of youtube. I did shut it off as soon as I remembered/realized, though. I deleted my facebook years ago, so I can't really say Im boycotting that, nor twitter since I've never even made an account there... but I would've if I had been using them. Are you doing anything different?
I don't use any of those except you tube for music. However I am disgusted with any type of censorship of political ideas no matter how far out on either side of the spectrum they are. I am not a protester or a boycott kind of guy.
I dont mind censorship by privately owned sites. If I want to hear what Alex Jones has to say (for example), Im fully capable of going to his website.
Its hard to stay informed if you keep yourself away from the censorship. How could I bitch about it if I wasn't exposed to it first hand?
Censorship is an insult to everyone living in the 21st-Century! If the venue, platform, or institution is open to the PUBLIC, then censorship is nothing but the worst kind of manipulative bullshit that can be thrust on every person's ability to express him/herself....
Funny how right wingers never got this riled when right wing websites such as Real Cities, Belief Net, and others engaged in censorship of patriots whose views did not square with those of the unpatriotic far right.
I would have done because I see free speech as absolute. Freedom has a price and that price is you have to fight for the rights of people you don't agree with.
Leftist on NFL: OMG. CENSORSHIP. OPPRESSION. COLLUSSION. RACIST. Leftist on social media: Meh, free speech doesn't apply to private companies. He broke terms of service. And yes, apply the same logic in reverse to the right, minus the accusations of "racism".
Much agreed. I still think that Jones is paying Facebook and the others to do this as it makes his own site much more popular than it would be. One thing that is evident upon watching Jones for even a few minutes is that his outrage is no more unfeigned than that Lewis Black is about to have a real nervous breakdown or Don Rickles really didn't like Johnny Carson.
I think we need more of that from everyone I remember a Futurama episode where zoidberg eats the flag (Irony lol) I am that lawyer
I'll say it again: your right to free speech does not entitle you to the use of someone else's bullhorn and soapbox. This isn't a 1st amendment issue.
My first reaction is.... who? My next reaction was, could I even find them on the heat map of top 100 social sites.... and lastly I said, so what.
You are right EXCEPT when the "soapbox" is a PUBLIC forum, open to participation by anyone and everyone....
It isn't open to anyone and everyone. It has rules of use. It is not open to people who violate those and it isn't publicly owned. It is a privately owned soapbox. Now one owes it to you or anyone else.
Well, then, you're right. If it's privately owned, and it's not described as being "free and open" to the general public, then, yes, the proprietors have every right to use all the censorship protocols they like and construct any sort of 'echo chamber' which reflects their own subjective concept of what's appropriate and what is not.
I can only assume everyone here who has a serious problem with terms of use in social media will be leaving this forum, since it is also a platform with terms of use.
Once again, you are right! It's like real estate people comment to customers when a person is considering buying land but has concerns about what someone may decide to do on adjoining properties: "If you don't OWN it, you DON'T control it". 'Nuff said.
Also funny how the left wing sites constantly attempt to censor those that they don't agree with, especially conservatives.
