(Bloomberg) -- The White House has drafted an executive order for President Donald Trump’s signature that would instruct federal antitrust and law enforcement agencies to open investigations into the business practices of Alphabet Inc.’s Google, Facebook Inc. and other social media companies.

The WH instructs U.S. antitrust authorities to thoroughly investigate whether any online platform has acted in violation of the antitrust laws. Other government agencies have a month, after it’s signed, to recommend actions to protect competition among online platforms and address online platform bias.

Google, Facebook, Twitter and other social media companies, silence conservative voices and news sources online.

The Social Media Oligarchy has joined Academia in openly discriminating against Republican/Conservative voices. They are close down the opinions of many people on the RIGHT, while at the same time doing nothing to others.

This will be a disaster for internet freedom. It will set the precedent. the left will be in power soon enough and they'll enact hatespeak legislation on the same justification.

It astounds me that there are so many prominent conservatives who favor regulating speech as anti-trust. it will backfire.

Well, I do not prefer this, but if Google is going to pride itself on being the main search engine in the US, then it should not be manipulating results to influence people's opinions.

Facebook has two right wing orgs moderating content, Trump's sanctions have taken Abby Martin off-air, Lee Camp's numbers are way down but it's all lefties doing.

Ain't that right, rightie right echo chamber cheering on the Don who's fkn you sideways along with everyone else.

    Too drunk on liberal tears.

Conservatism died in 2008. It’s gone and the philosophy is extinct. Now it’s all about control and power.

Social media practices threaten freedom of speech which is more important than the spotted owl.

Excellent news. This is the only way non liberals will be able to voice their opinions on the internet going forward.

The left obviously wants internet censorship of conservatives, but it’s sad to see how many dumb conservatives have taken the “well just build your own internet! Muh free market!” idiocy. Of course, many of these types are likely shills.

No it won’t. There is literally no downside for conservatives at this point. These companies already have de facto hate speech rules in effect.

Nope. There have been competitors to these companies already that have been shut down, or are being threatened with it. Look at Gab, a competitor to Twitter. A single anti Semitic post on that site was left unmoderated and Microsoft is trying to get the whole domain shut down. What fledgling company is going to be able to battle back against a company like Microsoft?

And, even if you somehow create your own platform, the payment processing companies have colluded with social media companies to kick conservatives off of their services too. Alex Jones was just kicked off PayPal yesterday for insulting trannies, weeks after everyone else kicked him off. Same goes for Stripe, which handles most payment processing services that these companies use. If they don’t like you, you can’t get funding.

“Build your own” isn’t going to work. Conservatives are not even allowed to build a parallel internet and parallel banking system, and that’s what it would take to ensure a higher up company couldn’t come in and take out your service for wrongthink.

At the very least their federal protections should end. Those protections were given to them because they created environments that promoted the values of free speech. If they aren’t willing to abide by those terms, then end their federal protections.

What will they be looking for? It's unconstitutional for the government to regulate free speech. Perhaps you and Trump need to be reminded.

How long will you guys keep repeating that ridiculous strawman, even after we've addressed it dozens of times?

No conservative wants the government to regulate speech. You completely made this up. Political discrimination is an *action* that these companies engage in, by banning users whose views they don't like. I'm pretty sure a 5 year old knows the difference between words and actions so why do I have to keep explaining this.

With that logic you'd be defending your 'right' to point a gun to my head as free speech.

They aren't regulating free speech, they are investigating whether a monopoly is preventing the free exercise of Constitutional rights. It's a felony under US law to interfere with exercise of the free rights of others, Silly!

What a pathetically useless partisan response. Pollution harms people. Look it up.

    Unbelievably pathetic and naive.

No, they don't. Private companies having rules of use for their property has nothing to do with your actual freedom of speech.

Wrong again. It is not a felony for a private company to have rules. It is not a felony or a violation of your Constitutional rights for them to refuse to publish or promote your content. Your freedom of speech does not entitle you to the use of other people's property to promote it. Do they not even cover the 1st Amendment in school anymore?
