Once we have compiled a list of issues and suggestions we put them into a ranked vote thread and everyone gets to indicate what are their priorities.

From that we learn which issues are the most important on which to reach a compromise so we can begin with those and work our way forward from there.

I read mostly. Same as you. Of course Rush is not the only one. I never said he was. Calling it an "obsession" is just one of your "tools" as you call them, used to derail
any discussion that puts you on the defensive. But he is definitely one of the causes for the division of this country. He has been for a long time.
I just want to hear you admit that political "talk radio" including Rush Limbaugh, is major contributing factor to the division of this country.
And since you're so generous with your advice, here's some for you.
Your obsession with lying is not healthy. :)

Precisely. These things should be at the top of the list.
Anything or anyone that threatens these basic human needs should be dealt with immediately.

Pollycy didn't address my post and doesn't raise an objection to the disruptive posts made by right wingers. Well, that's to be expected because it is the normal course in this forum.

Done! I voted in your poll as "I am a Traditional Conservative willing to Compromise". I wasn't sure what a "devoted" one was by contrast, so, I just described myself as "Traditional" -- although my Conservative 'spear-tip' has always been an economic one (not the 'social-conservative type).

Again, I know that the Left and the Right in this horribly divided United States may be many years away from even "liking" each other again, even under fortunate circumstances (and I sure don't see many of those for at least the next five years). I'm just trying to get people in both our factions to examine their own beliefs and priorities closely and find areas where we can at least compromise -- that "half-a-loaf" type of thing, so that we don't wake up ten years from now in a weakened, isolated country which has become permanently paralyzed -- and, maybe even worse than that. Again, I'm glad we're both going to encourage this process, even though at the personal level we may disagree on a lot of things.

One of your Conservative peers posted this statement:

Sure I could be wrong. Maybe Rush is the head coach or the quarterback not the color guy. As long as the right things get done legally who cares?”

My major concern is with the last sentence.

As long as the right things get done legally who cares?”

Doe’s that mean Conservatives will go to any length to get their “right things” done?
Is that why you voted Trump into office?
As long as Conservatives get what they want regardless of consequences?

You asked...”WHAT IS IT THAT YOU ON THE LEFT WANT?”
I want the folks on the so called “Right” to stop playing politics as
if it were simply a game to be won or lost. You have elected a
President that prefers the advice of a “talk show host” rather than that
of his own political party. What exactly is it that you think you have gained
by putting Trump in office? And is it really worth the consequences?
Have you even considered the consequences?

What lies? So egos aren’t sentient? I’m the liar? You certainly don’t disappoint.

The notion people like me wouldn’t be irate about encroachment on freedom and trashing of the Constitution without a Rush is patently absurd.

You just don’t like people like Rush talking about it on a national stage.

Are you all worked up about cable news or Hollywood dividing the country? Thom Hartmann? Lots of things contribute to division but ultimately issues divide.

Can’t you see it’s concrete issues that divide not free speech? Isn’t it a whiny, intellectually weak argument to blame talk show hosts of any brand for our problems and global ones as well? It’s more of the fear of truth coming out. Blaming some blowhards on the radio for division when there are active efforts to curtail freedoms underfoot.

If I was the one on the defensive I’d be the one refusing to answer questions and launching personal attacks on forum members and media/entertainment figures :)

For what it's worth, through the years, I've found that I have spent almost as much time being annoyed and frustrated with Rush Limbaugh as I have with cheering him on... surprisingly. Same with Sean Hannity, Mark Levin, and others. As a rock-solid Conservative, I should almost be expected to 'worship at their shrine'... right? But often I find them bombastic, doctrinaire, and too willing to present half of the truth of a matter, ignoring the other half -- and those are exactly the same kinds of things that I have intensely disliked about a number of prominent Democrats!

It is probably fair to say that many of us who voted for Donald Trump did so only because the clear alternative was Hillary Clinton -- for us, "a fate worse than death"....

Now, here we are... in ACUTE need of a straightforward, no-bullshit, exposition of WHAT WE WANT -- and what we are WILLING to COMPROMISE on so that we, as the United States of America, can survive! It's really coming down to something as serious as THAT, in my unsettled, nervous opinion....

So, that's why I asked the question, "What do you on the Left want?" What do you really WANT? Let's start with what each of us wants the most and then work TOWARD each other!

What is it you want people to say without explaining their thoughts ? Or do you just want them to write BS so you can copy and paste it later as FACT that LIBS "want free stuff" ?

They want what we had from 1945 - 1995. A good job, good healthcare, politicians that care about people, a living wage, the opportunity to move up in a company without being fired because they can be replaced by cheaper labor, tax on the rich so the working class can pay less. Regulation on business and the rich, the market, the pension funds, everything that has been stripped away by the rich and politicians from the working class. It isn't a Left vs right thing like you want to play it out.

Put money, healthcare, and prosperity in LEFT and RIGHT working class people and all these fights over irrelevant issues will go away as it did back then.. .People will be busy enjoying life, Both side along with the rich have created the populism, not the people, they have only reacted to what they have which is nothing !

In spite of what Belch and a few others have said, there is common ground between LW, RW, and center.
Sure, not for the fringe folks as those that think there is no common ground. But for the vast majority, perhaps 60% or so, there is and can be.
Now, how does the 60% folks get something done?
As on now, those 20% on each fringe have the loudest microphone.
    And media, i will add.

Just like right now on CNBC, BS propping up the market as if a 300K job report and a 3 stooges meeting powell, yellen, and berneke makes any difference in the working class. It means nothing and this small bump will be stripped away within a couple months. People at the working class level are BROKE. They cannot afford anything, I see it daily, and everything has gone up 100% over 20 year period. Their wages zero%... Plus healthcare now costs every worker 100$ a week or more. It is all collapsing around us but we act like, or repeat what others write or say on TV. Re educate, or save, dont do this or that, things will be better soon, make america great again, Trump will fix it, take better care of yourself, dont drink, all while Insurance, medical pundits make billions more.
There is the .01% who control it all, and then there is another 1.5% more or less who live very well off of the working class. A biotech lab assistant, A VP at JP Morgan, etc. All making big bucks, and as long as they, the other 10M are happy, it is hard to fight for the working class.

Its not a trick at all. You just have to read a the handful of publications the progressives here read.

What the left wants is liberation for all from white/cis-gendered/heteronormative patriarchy.

What I don't understand, and what they don't understand either, is what things will look like after this is accomplished.

Way, way Left. Rousseau's Noble Savage Left. Unfortunately humans are not Noble Savages and attempts to make them so have generated much of the horror of the 20th C.

This has nothing to do with hate. It has everything to do with Trump's big mouth and his rash decisions. Here is the latest debacle.

In his first Cabinet meeting of the year, President Trump stuck a dagger in a major initiative advanced by his foreign policy team: Iran’s leaders, the president said, “can do what they want” in Syria.

With a stray remark, Trump snuffed out a plan from his national security adviser, John Bolton, who this fall vowed that the United States would not leave Syria “as long as Iranian troops are outside Iranian borders.”

The president’s statement offered the latest illustration of the dramatic gyrations that have characterized his foreign policy and fueled questions about whether his senior advisers are implementing his policies or pursuing their own agendas.

It begins with Trump. He has to learn to keep his big mouth shut and not say things he later regrets. The man is the Divider-in-Chief.

Want proof? See his comment above.

There are hundreds of such brainless, absurd, counter productive, and dangerous statements.

Think many would want this, but it is nothing more than a DREAM. I see people at the sh*t level. People that live by the penny I work with, they are broke, from a country where there were no real laws, other than the ones you list.
1.social constructs which encourage people to be environmentally savvy - they are, they rob from each other, have lots of kids and couldn't give a *******n about anything but their next meal.
    2. discourage behavior that does not fit within the value system of society - LMAO, at least you are refreshingly honest. Guess what, 60% of our society could care less about this.
    3. I won't go on, it would be nice to live in this utopia, but it is what we started out with, led to the cowboy days out west, gun fights, and big business tycoon taking it all in OIL, railroad, whale oil, cattle, then FORD in cars, others in electricity and until there were LAWS to prevent their greed and abuse, it cotinue down a horrible path. Kids working at 10 years old 7 days a week for food. That is where we would be without laws, actually, we would be in slave times.

Try just following the request in the OP.

And why do you believe I might want to ever accuse libs of wanting "free stuff"? Did you ever read my signature line?

I have no beef with you taking my statements out of context in our interactions.

I do have a bit of a concern with you applying out of context statements to other forum members. I respectfully ask you not do that in the future.

Pollycy, I apologize to you for this. Your response was well played.

What does the left want? Simples! For the right wing to stop being willing sheep to an elite that actively harms the majority.

I'm sure you all can achieve it if you give a toss.

I'm as about as far to the 'right' as a person can get, Daniel -- most particularly on economic matters. But believe this -- I'll fight like a mad dog for clean air and clean water. I remember all too well what the air was like in winter in Denver back in the late 70's -- smog so bad you couldn't see two blocks downtown. And today? The oceans? Many square-MILES of floating trash of every description! Horrible, with cubic-miles of MORE trash down below the surface, all the way to the oceans' bottoms....

It is exactly these kinds of things that all of us, Left and Right, should be able to join forces on immediately! Honestly, I don't know any Conservative person who wants to live in filth of any kind....
