Nobody I know even knows the government is shut down. Almost everyone though agrees that illegal immigration is a problem and a wall would help.

No we don't. When the Mexican government says they will, and their legislature puts it in their budget with a sum, and Congress keeps it from out of ours, that's good enough for me. I know that we are paying for it, when Congress allots dollars for it and those dollars get spent. That is exactly the opposite of Mexico paying for that wall. So lets just not allot any dollars for it, and wait for it to get built when Mexico does. I am willing to wait for Trump to cut a deal with Mexico that keeps our taxpayers out of it entirely. Win/win.

 

No one read the obamacare legislation when it was shoved thru congress so what does it matter who pays for border security?

 

We learned. Democrats read the budget they are voting for. We expect Trump to keep to his promise, not break it on the backs of the American Taxpayer.

 

If it makes you feel better we will take the money out of Mexico's aid check's

 

what makes me feel better is if Congress holds this President to the promise he made the American people. We don't put the money in and then later figure out how to get it back. Instead, we keep our tax dollars out of it entirely and let just let Trump take his cause up with the Mexican govt. Let this great wheeler- dealer make a deal with Mexico for his wall. Or he can fund it himself and then get reimbursed by Mexico.

 

Funny democrats are so suddenly worried about funding. Never were before when they voted for walls.

 

We learned from the deficit hawks, the trump GOP threw under the bus, to get the wealthy yet another tax break.

 

Nevermind Trump...the truth is the democrats have sold this country out. It should be blatantly obvious to everyone by now given the fact there are so many videos showing Pelosi, Schumer, Hillary, Bill Clinton, Obama ALL said the same thing as Trump not that long ago that America needed a border wall. Now they want open borders can only mean one thing, they sold out the American people for new voters south of the border because they're poor, oppressed, uneducated, and therefore will be much easier to control. All the signs are there right in front of everyone's face IF they take off the blinders before it's too late. WAKE UP

Trump talked about the wall at every rally before he was election so this was not a tantrum regardless of what the liberal press calls it.

I don't believe the Senate passed a bill. If a bill was passed or even voted on by the Senate please provide a link to some source for this claim.

as a procedural question why wasn't this bill then given to Trump to Veto and then sent back for an attempted override vote?

 

What is trump willing to give in exchange?

Trump does not want to build the wall because he is not willing to give anything in exchange. He merely wants the love and worship from you, his base, and he gets that simply by appearing as though he is fighting for the wall.

 

Trump called Ryan and said he would reject the Senate plan. So they decided that it would make more sense, politically, to allow the GOP in the house to attach themselves firmly to trump's ******* by voting instead on a bill that included wall funding.

 

He also promised Mexico would pay for it at every rally.

He shut down the government because he couldn't even get partial funding after two years of unified party rule. That was a temper tantrum decision.

And he refuses to reopen the government because the tantrum worked him into a wall of his own making.
