    It's because more foreigners understand English than German. The banners held aloft by the Swedish women were also in English.

    It did however.
    It unanimously passed the senate on a voice vote but failed in the republican controlled house.
    The house has now passed the same bill.

    A single man is holding the country hostage to protect the president

    Trump could have offered every left wing liberal dreams of concessions for the wall money and Nancy would have said no. The Dems are now the party holding Americans hostage. Totally moronic for the Dems to have put her in charge of the House and now they will pay for it!

    If you think a shutdown is worth battling over 5 billion out of the 4 trillion, some 0.0125% of a single percentage point of total spending is trying to bring down the deficit, I'd say you're wrong.

    There is no fiscal responsible party, ideology, philosophy at least since Reagan or possibly going back to Eisenhower. IKE was the last president where the national debt went down in two of his eight years in office. The National debt dropped from 275 billion down to 273 billion in FY 1956 from the previous year and dropped again down to 270 billion in FY 1957. Truman also over saw decreases in the national debt in 3 of his years as presidents.

    Fact is we haven't had a fiscal responsible president or congress since IKE.

    Did you not notice that there was a time limitation attached to that 'protection'. In other words the only thing permanent in the deal offered was the wall funding.

    No it wasn't.

    It was a press stunt designed to blow the women's march of the TV screen (it seems to have succeeded there ), and to try and steal the moral high ground. Which wont work, because policies based on fear and bigotry are not moral arguments.

    It's easy to blame Dems. Trump is asking for $5B for OUR nation. Do you know how much money we give OTHER nations?

    The Dems have two options: "Sure!" and "No!". Right now they are sticking with "No!" which is why the government is shut down.

    If the Dems (Hold on, this is about to blow your mind!) said "Sure!", then the government would re-open!

    Let me know if this is still confusing to you. Happy to break it down.

    What's to compromise on. Pelosi sent him a clean bill to open government. Mitch won't vote on it.
    So how is she shutting down the government when she just sent him a bill to open it.

    Not confused at all - but thanks for the offer.

    The Dems did not shut down the government...Trump did, because he didn't get his way.

    The Dems are saying that they will be happy to head to the negotiation table, but the government must open first. Trump not only shut down the government, but now he won't re-open the government...until he gets his way.

    If you are following along, Trump is using the shutdown as a bargaining chip.

    The Dems have an option here, it's called "Yes". If they said "Yes" to Trump, then the government opens.

    Pelosi doesn't get to decide whether the bill is "clean", the founding fathers and the Constitution in the spirit of checks and balances granted this responsibility to the executive branch in the form of presidential veto power .

    Trump found the bill lacking and not "clean" enough. It's his constitutional prerogative and responsibility to send it back to the house. It's Pelosi's constitutional responsibility to negotiate with the President and amend the bill so that it satisfies all parties involved.

    "My bill or highway" Pelosi's stance is the opposite of what the founding fathers mandated.
