FY2017 saw more apprehensions in the months of October and November than the October and November of FY2019. Your hill article quotes numbers for December and January of FY2019 (50.7k and 47.9k, respectively), which would be approximately 10,000 fewer than the four month total found in 2017.

FY2017 saw a total of 415.5k apprehensions, which was the lowest number of the last twenty years. Now, does that mean that FY2019 is going to be the same as FY2017? Of course not. But it is equally bullshit to project the first four months into a total of 800,000 which would be the highest amount seen in nearly 10 years.

I learned today that the financial law Trump signed into law includes (thank you Democrats) funds to construct welcome centers for illegals. Damn those Democrats.

 

The 2006 law is his authority. If you note, Trump never shut down the Government. He blundered saying he wanted credit. But the truth is no bill nor law was laid on his desk to veto so then he would bear the blame for the shut down. True that Trump took away the Clinton record.

We can argue about whether a wall is necessary or not - but there is no arguing that Trump has crossed the line with this "emergency" that he admitted on national TV was NOT an emergency - just a way to bypass the Constitutionally enumerated powers of Congress.

 

Obama didn't build ANY walls under the auspices of a National Emergency.

Trumps wall is a civilian project because it will be permanently manned by non-military, i.e. civilians. There is no war zone. There is no military installation. Thus, there is no military construction project.

There is not even an emergency because apprehensions along the southern border are at 20 year lows, roughly 1/4th as that found in 2001. 90% of drugs come in through ports of entry. And more terrorist-linked individuals come through the northern border. And illegals are less likely to commit violent crimes than native born Americans.

Oh, and because trump admitted, "I didnt need to do this. I just wanted to do it faster. That's all."

There is no historical precedent for trump using an emergency declaration to get funds after going to, and being turned down by, congress for those funds. Obama never did that. No president ever has, except trump.

61% of American oppose his emergency declaration. Pointing out that Democrats make up 8% more of the country is only going to further enforce that finding.
