President Trump has managed to achieve victory against the extremists in Syria and Iraq! I don't know how they did it, but I am sure glad it's finally over.

Congratulations to the US military and allies, and to the people of Iraq and Syria. May your lives get better from now on.

This is a nice feather in Trump's hat and will lead him to victory in 2020 as well.

Obamas JV team has been reduced.

Kudos to Trump for coming in, kicking ass, and pulling out.

    And with low casualties too!

We are withdrawing from syria, and maintaining a limited presence in Iraq.

Obama wouldnt fight Isis so the US had to redeploy.

    But thats how chumps fight.

We are leaving Syria? According to who??

WASHINGTON — First, President Trump was going to pull all 2,000 American troops out of Syria immediately. Then he was going to slow down the withdrawal. Then he was going to leave troops in neighboring Iraq.

Now, in the latest about-face, Mr. Trump has agreed to leave about 400 troops in Syria — 200 in a multinational force in the northeastern part of the country and another 200 at a small outpost in the southeast, where they will seek to counter Iran’s influence throughout the country.

Are you opposed to it or just complaining because it's Trump?

I’m opposed to him constantly blurting out nonsense and then realizing it’s nonsense. Then we have people who just claim whatever of his multiple positions they like are what he’s doing

yeah, but those guys are dead. Even though I was against the Iraq war from the moment GWB said we were going, I am glad these particular extremists have been routed. I guess it's personal. Hard to explain.

Obama started, what a f'ing joke. Trump fixed Obama's total failure, he let ISIS form calling them the JV team. He allowed a terrorist group thrive and control 8 million innocent people because he didn't have the balls to kill them as soon as they popped up. They laughed at his and our ass and now they've had their ass handed to them. Only a partisan hack would ever say Trump finished what Obama started, you cannot rewrite history because your new President succeeded.

Under Obama, ISIS territory exploded in size. Under Trump ISIS exploded.

Suuuuuurrrrrree...LOL... Name me ONE thing Trump (Not the Pentagon, but Trump personally) has done that has helped us to the current point in this fight??

    SNIP
But over the past three or four years, Obama and Trump have inadvertently teamed on a strategy in Iraq and Syria that has it right: Muddle through with a smaller U.S. investment that keeps the worst from happening but also keeps America out of Middle Eastern quagmires. This is far from a perfect solution. But it happens to be the best one that we have.

Trump has taken credit for recent military gains against the Islamic State, furthering the narrative that he’s responsible for turning things around. In reality, his administration has wisely picked up where Obama’s administration left off and stayed the course.

    Exactly.

The Movement (and Idea) of "ISIS" will remain strong even without physical territory.

Leaving 400 mostly non-armed troops is equally as nonsensical, but it's the middle ground between Trump and the neocons. If they hadn't voiced an objection at all, Trump probably stays to his decision.

This actually highlights Democratic weakness: Trump can be convinced on, nary anything(as long as he isn't sold on it.), that means Democrats could've easily gotten concessions on numerous fronts. Instead, the resistance led to both the executive and legislative branches at defacto war throughout Trump's administration.

What a wasted four years of opportunity Trump's term was.

Kudo's for using the word nary.

That world should be brought back, particularly in march.

FYI, if you actually did go to Afghanistan it would be self evident that the war on terrorism is far from over. ISIS is Syria may be over, but to suggest they are no more is a fools assumption.!!!!!
