Ilhan Omar Slammed U.S. Soldiers Involved in ‘Black Hawk Down’ Incident

The United States Army was the villain in the “Black Hawk Down” incident in Somalia, U.S. Rep. Ilhan Omar, D-Minn., wrote in a 2017 Twitter post.

Omar, a Somali native elected to Congress last fall, was responding to a tweet that falsely described the 1993 Battle of Mogadishu as the worst terrorist attack in Somali history. The original tweet noted that 19 American soldiers were killed and 73 American soldiers were wounded.

...“Relief organizations from the U.S. and our international partners went to Somalia to try to end the widespread suffering and death from starvation of hundreds of thousands of Somali people,” Durant said. “The mission was an overwhelming success. Without harming a single Somali or destroying any property the military force was able to provide security, open the supply lines and get food, medicine and assistance to the Somali people, effectively ending their suffering. Had the story ended there, Somalia could have gone down as one of the most successful peacekeeping efforts in our military’s history.”

President George H.W. Bush began “Operation Restore Hope” in December 1992, sayingthat he hoped to ease suffering and save lives. At least a quarter of a million people had died at that point due to famine, he said, and five times that number were in danger of dying without immediate action.

Aid workers faced assault, armed gangs hijacked food convoys and stole food after it was delivered, he said. Ships carrying aid were shelled.

In the early 90's, there was a famine in Somalia. People were starving. And warlords were keeping donated supplies for themselves, or to give to their war gangs.

The US was sent to Somalia, to assure food and medicine was getting to the people that needed it. And part of that required taking down a local war lord.

It ended with the violent deaths of several American soldiers, known as the battle of Mogadishu.




Somewhere that day in Somalia, was a Ilhan Omar. And yet she refers to it as a terrorist attack. The US is the bad guy you see.

 

She should go back to Somalia.

Ilhan Omar was living in the US at the time.

Her family had fled Somalia years before due to the outbreak of civil war. Ilhan Omar had been granted entry into the US a year before the American servicemen died trying to help the country her and her family had abandoned years earlier.

 

I just checked, her wiki article states she lived in Somalia until 92, and Kenya until 95. Black Hawk down was in 93.

 

And why is she peddling bizarre conspiracy theories?

Omar entered the United States in 1992. After first arriving in New York,[16] her family settled in Arlington, Virginia.[10] Her family sought asylum in the U.S. in 1995 and moved to Minneapolis.

 

She's a naturalized US citizen, so her citizenship can be revoked.
She came with her parents and claimed asylum in the US in 1995.

 

The US has had a number of significant failures in attempting to carry out missions similar to our mission in Somalia.

It shouldn't be surprising that there are those who see these military actions in other countries as mistakes - regardless of good intentions and exemplary troop contributions.

 

We should immediately stop sending aid, and send her there instead!

Frankly, I love the fact that Omar will say damn near anything that's on her mind. She's like a Muslim version of Trump in that regard. I hope she keeps talking and doesn't stop.

I haven't read what she said.

If she is criticizing the behavior of our troops (instead of the mission) I won't like that.

But, our government has a tendency to insert our military support in numerous ways. And, our record on these actions, ordered by our civilian government, don't have a great record.

I'd bet not many Americans know all the places we are fighting today - drones, support for local military, actual troops, etc. We've even seen Trump refuse to abide by congressional direction to stop contributing to the war in Yemen - a country where I bet most Americans couldn't find on a map without reading the labels, don't know our mission, don't know what other fighters are up to, don't know the level of international opinion or support, and don't know why congress ordered us out.

The last previous such foray was Libya. How has THAT worked out?

 

She is pointing to the imbalance of deaths on that fateful day, but what she does not understand is that this is traditionally how Africans fight, they swarm you until you are swamped ( sorry I could have said that differently) yeah they just keep on coming in numbers until they get you... zombie style... in the age of the submachine gun this means you shoot a few hundred until they finally reach you and you die... or you run out of ammo and you die..you pretty much die in both scenarios the reason for the imbalance in the number of dead.

We should throw out of the country for marrying her brother. DNA test her and her husband, then throw her back to Somalia. She is a vile human being and a traitor to this country. Way to Democrats. Way to go Minnesota.

To which Omar says Americans killed "thousands of Somalis."

Not only is that false, the Americans were there to save somali lives.
