Ya, they push down against the fence likethey are scratching real hard. They put everything into it ....if they find a hole they work on it ....or if they find something to jump up on....over the fence ...or through the fence ....they go. The most I paid for a goat was nearly 100.00. It was a billy and not much of a breeder. He was also sickly. His offspring were also sickly. There is someone nearby that sells Nigerian Dwarf nannies for 75.00. May get a billy cheaper. At least they used to be that price.. And the nannies we bought from her are still giving babies. But we also have a boar nanny that produces fine billies. But I havent bought a goat for a while. There may be something to be said for buying from close by. The Crazy Goat Lady had some good stock...the foundation of my herd. I have also bought at auction but don't buy a goat with a dirty butt and make sure you look them over first. The tails also tell a lot. Straight up or better. Twinkle Toes was bought at auction . We call her Twinkle Toes because of the way she would gingerly jump the fence. She has three tities but she is a good mama and makes thrifty goats. If you have a few goats and just one gets out....it will run up and down the fence crying to get back in. But it wont let you catch it. Unless you throw down some corn and catch it by the horns when it is eating....or work a rope round it.

If you could make it look right tie some fence wire from the post to the gate and let the fence wire work as a hinge. Then it will probably push out at the center of the gate. I would use a fence with small spaces like 2 by 4. Any goat will try to get out.

She had a hell of a run. I managed to hang onto a big Airedale for 14 years - still really miss him.
After a while a new dog can help, but you never forget a really good dog.

Thx y'all... it is hard even though, like the vet said, shes 126 in human yrs. Another dog is not necess since I have 2 more sr dogs (her pups) to care for. Theyre only 16 and one is also deaf & nearly blind. Difference is theyre outside dogs and Lucy lived inside. They still function pretty good (mostly eat & sleep) and have a nice shady patio & yard w big comfy dog house... so Im not outta the dog biz. *woof woof*

That is a hard thing to do. So sorry it happened. One of the best dogs I ever had was 18 and the same thing had to be done. He couldn't hear, was going blind and had TIA's really bad. It took me a while to get over him. I love dogs and never want to be without one, they are a lot of work but you get paid back with their devotion to you.

I went to the Social Security office yesterday. There were about twenty people there holding their numbers. I waited about ten minutes and no numbers were called. I started to look at the brochures, and saw one titled "Retire Online". I grabbed it and left.

I filled out the online form in the comfort of home. It took maybe half an hour.

I think I'm probably not going back to work.

Good morning earthlings. Happy Friday. Busy day... mtg gf for early lunch, then taking a dry run on the commuter train to time how long it'll take to get to my new office after next week. Cant see paying nearly $200 month for parking when the train stops right in front of the bldg.

Y'alls talk about retirement isnt helping my motivation to adjust to adjust to a new work schedule... esp since Ive cleaned out my cube. Gonna give it a try, but not promising anything. This song seems appropriate . ;)

    I've been retired for 30hrs.

I was really afraid of it.

    So far, it's pretty relaxing.

The last day of school in 8th grade we all lined up and marched from the school building across the courtyard and lined up at the door of the schools church. All our parents were there and many other people. The church was full. We walked in singing this song.
    I never forgot it.
Some nun was on the money thinking that was a good idea. Ahahaha

Did my civic duty by voting in the runoff for Mayor today. Rare occurrence... I like both candidates! Voted for Scott Griggs because he's been a city councilman (my hood) and knows how crazy this city is... governmently-speaking. His opponent is Eric Johnson , a very personable young man who's been a state rep, Dallas native, rise from his upbringing kinda guy... backed by the big $. Mayoral elections are 'non-partisan' -- but to me, both these guys could be Republicans. Win-Win. ;)

0608191438.jpg I built this Aldo Leopold bench. It is not a very good pic but maybe you can see it. It is a pretty simple build and finished with linseed oil. I may put spar varnish on it when it goes outside....after the oil dries ....and it quits raining.

0608191439.jpg It is made with old wood. I did some sanding on it but no cleanup of old dirt and grime otherwise. It had dirt wasp nests and black stuff on it. The backrest in an old door frame piece that was once painted white. I took most of the paint off with a wire brush....in my side grinder. Put it together with decking screws. The seat is a one by twelve board that used to be in the wall. I think the legs are rafter boards. I saw a bench like this at a local produce stand....kinda like the simple design....with material you could build a lot of them quickly....without much tool investment. ..I used a circular saw, grincer, sander, and 3/8 drill.
