Mexico deploys military to curb migration, reportedly offers major concessions as Trump tariffs loom

    With just days to go until the Trump administration is set to impose punishing tariffs on Mexico unless the country halts the unprecedented flow of illegal immigrants across the southern border, numerous signs that Mexico would capitulate emerged Thursday -- but it remained unclear Friday morning whether their efforts would satisfy the White House.

    Reports in the evening indicated that Mexico's negotiators with Washington have offered to immediately deploy 6,000 National Guard troops to the border with Guatemala. Additionally, Mexico has reportedly agreed to a major overhaul of reasonable asylum protocols, which would require asylum applicants to seek permanent refuge in the first country they arrive in after fleeing their home countries.

    Looks like Trumps threats of tariffs are working yet again.

    This time in Mexico.

    It also means that "refugees" stay down there, instead of the US.

    Combined with the Wall I think it will be effective.

    I don't trust the cartels that run Mexico and bribe Democrats and rinos to keep the flow of foreign nationals going. They will just go back to hiding it. No more giant caravans.

    That's right, it's summer. Do you know how many illegals will die in the desert trying to get here? Lots, and that's just on our side. Many, many more will die on the Mexican side. A compassionate person would try to save their lives by discouraging them from coming here instead of throwing out bait and luring them into the country.

    The saddest thing is that you think Mexico will fix the situation.

    It will be very temporary, maybe two or three months.

    Mexicans also know that imposing tariffs would create an economic downturn that would cost both countries tens of billions of dollars...

    It has nothing to do with trust, it's a management issue.

    In any case, what is happening at the border has nothing to do with a national emergency and is just another political tool used by Trump to excite his base.

    Indeed.

    Since Trump became President, US has lost all its friends.

    Yeah, Dad took me down to a park along the Rio Grande about 12 years back. We didn't go far but he started struggling. That dry heat takes it out of you quickly.
