If there were serious numbers of neo-Nazi votes in the US, Trump might cater to them, the way Hilary and other Democrats cater to the demagogue Al Sharpton, and others even to the open Jew-hater Farrakhan. But there is absolutely no advantage in 'seeking the approval of Nazis' in the US. So, yes, he's being stupid beyond belief. But we knew that already. And if there are any Nazis who approve of him, I wonder what they think about his extreme pro-Israel policy?

There is a kind of parallel here: some liberals/progressives don't want to condemn Anti-Fa, and some conservatives don't want to acknowledge, or acknowledge publically, the awfulness, the depraved character of Donald Trump. And the ultimate reaons are the same: we're in a war, and we're not going to attack anyone on our side. The enemy of my enemy, etc.

But rather than deny reality, why not just admit the truth: Pro-anti-Fa liberals can just yes, anti-Fa are the fascists of the Left, but ... maybe we need a few fascists on our side.. The liberals of previous generations were too nice, too principled. We've got to play dirty.

And conservatives who are reluctant to say that Trump is a revolting narcissistic idiot can just acknowledge that he is, but repeat some variant of Mr Rumsfeld's observation that you go to war with the army you've got. The 'never Trump' conservatives are too nice, too principled. We've got to play dirty.

the Republican idea that I support is treating everyone equal everyone should have the same opportunity. And making special exceptions for people is necessarily saying they can't compete.

I don't think so. Franklin Delano Roosevelt was not by any definition of conservative and he was the Democrat president in the 1930s. This dude was a socialist. he was as liberal as Alexandria ocasio-cortez today in fact emulated him when she wrote her Green New deal.

No conservativism hasn't been part of the Democrat Party for at least 80 years. So the conservatives didn't switch over in the sixties. They were already in the Republican Party in the 30s. It was Dwight d Eisenhower that turned a lot of states in the south.
