When will religion be overteken by logic?

Never. Religion fills an unmet need in the human psyche that logic can never fill. Irreligious societies are on the decline everywhere in the world while religious societies are growing by leaps and bounds.

 

Name some irreligious nations that aren't doing well. I'm honestly curious.

 

The Green New Deal is possible if one committed to it. And was proposed to tackle the ever weighing problem of climate change.

Irrationality would imply that it’s impossible despite our best efforts. Or the position that says we should just ignore that problem entirely.

 

Is nationalism a religion?

 

No.

 

There should be an absolute funded goal by the U.S. to develop renewable energy. We subsidize oil yet there is no political will to fund a program to change the way we look at energy.

 

This is how all energy sources are realized, no reason to think the next age should be any different.

 

Why not? It can be just as irrational, consider North Korea based around a national cult. A strong belief in superiority and that the will of their nation is absolute.

Now think about Stalinist Russia, or Maoist China. Are they any different? A culture built upon the ideals of their leader and government. Secularism is easily corrupted with propaganda, the result is typically an abomination nation built on nationalism.

 

The traits of nationalism and religion are similar but they are different.

I left out the horror that is Nazism, a culture based on racial pedigree. A constructed fantasy based on racial superiority that served to produce one of the most vile regimes in history.

Or Pinots Chile, an atrocity of government that happened undemocratically. Used by the likes of Milton Friedman as an economic sandbox.

So many horrors are committed in war, and are too often excused by propaganda. State propaganda is a nationalist sermon. Conditioning society to accept its divine will.

 

I live my life in the hope that no matter what is to come I can justify myself before anyone to come. If they want to damn me after that that's their prerogative.

I see the parallels in Nationalism and religion in that is suspends critical thinking. They both make you blindly follow a set of beliefs.

I made my point. You compared nationalism with religion. Nationalism is about people. Religion is about unprovable beings. There is the difference.

 

Both revolve around building a fantasy of some perfect idea. Religion is about people too, in getting people to follow you. Indoctrinating the youth to believe in a society of absolute hegemony. People told of beautiful ends without dealing with the evils of its means.

 

I agree with that. They are both dangerous and are intertwined in some instances.
