I trust your liberal brainwashing will lead him towards a social justice degree which will more than qualify him to advance the progressive agenda from the basement of your home.

That statement is as funny as the gist of this article... It's a good morning when I wake up with a smile to tripe like that...

For the record, I live in a pretty hot part of the country in the summer (hell, who doesn't anymore?), and I set my thermostat to 80 during the day (sometimes manually kicked down to 79 on the really bad ones) and 77 at night. We put down all shades and blinds ALL day EVERY day in the summer and had new energy-efficient windows and doors installed in 2012, which keeps the cool inside and will have probably paid for themselves by 2022.

Just for kicks, we put our air down to 77 for an hour last month and we were all shivering.

Anybody who kicks their air down to 72 likely has a poorly insulated property..

Yeah, that's not how a thermostat works.

Because there is already a limited number of qualified black applicants. AA disproportionately enhances that number by making it easier to get in...to “help”.

Let’s make this easy so I can easily judge your critical thinking and intelligence. Do you honestly believe that because black people make up 12% of the population, they should also make up 12% of every vocation? Once we get that out of the way this topic can be discussed intelligently.

White people for example only account for a minority of certain professional sports while they are far more represented in careers in programming or dentistry. Is this good or bad or just due to personal decision making and life choices?

I imagine he'll be in computers like his dad and make a triple digit salary within 5 years of graduation.

I'll let your offspring come into my basement to remove my 1-800-JUNK **

** - Actually, we sell our old stuff on Craigs list and take our truly unusable stuff to our county landfill ourselves - Would never PAY somebody to handle my junk..... like Trump does

Does a thermostat not set when your AC (or heat) runs??

    Then of course it is...

I'm guessing 9th grade was when you moved on??

I have a master's degree in Electrical Engineering and I weep at what the progressives are doing to my profession. They are currently inundating the field with technically incompetent feminist radicals (borderline retards who I wouldn't trust to design an op-amp). The focus is being shifted from academic rigor and performance to sniffing out bias. I can think of no better way of destroying the hard sciences. As an engineer, your job is to develop mathematical models of the real world and implement them. It is an incredibly difficult thing to do and only a tiny sliver of the population has the cognitive ability and drive to accomplish it. Any dipshit can sniff out "bias", only the cognitive elite can develop a smart phone. This is how diversity hires can destroy an entire profession.

If your kid is intelligent and mathematically gifted, the day is coming when you will have to ship them to an Asian university to get the training they need.

As an engineer I have never been more enraged than when I see people who are my intellectually inferior given positions of power based on their gender and who then proceed to strip the engineering from engineering curriculums to be replaced by social justice.

Colleges are bad for a whole lot of people. They end a lot poorer than the would have been, and all they got is a piece of paper that entitles them to a cup of coffee at retail price.

Reminds me of a footbridge collapse in Florida. But hey, that's only mechanical/civil engineering gone to hell.

Sposed to last 100 years and withstand a Cat 5 hurricane.

    FIU sucks.

Using only Roman numerals the Roman Empire built footbridges that still stand and are still in use.

I think they are referring to a fairy tale then.

The real problem is some of the GOP ideology clashes with reality. Education let's people learn on their own, and helps teach them to understand how to draw rational conclusions based on data. When one does that, many of the GOP positions fall apart. There are also some democratic positions that fail under this as well, but things like gun control, abortion, and tax cuts all fail the what do the results from actual data test say. And those are three pillars of the GOP agenda, so yeah, they don't like universities. I wouldn't like reality either if it conflicted with my beliefs.

How are they taught that? Can you point to specific lesson plans that teach those things? You can't, but you can try.

Or are you trying to argue that our "discovery" of other people's land and the war we fought them over it didn't happen? That we didn't make promises to them and break them on a whim for our personal gain because we could? Or that we treated them like second class citizens because they were brown? Or do you want to get into slavery? See this isn't indoctrination, these are FACTUAL things that happened. If you have a problem with that, that's your own insecurities. There is no perfect nation or perfect society on this planet, just ones made up of people who have made mistakes, some horrible, over the years. Sorry if that bothers you.

I remember them bragging about all the women they had involved in the project. Then the bridge collapsed and the company went bankrupt. In engineering, diversity is not a strength, its deadly. Competence must be currency of the realm in engineering.

I attended college and didn't experience anything you are referring to. And if you just want avoid gays and be around white people, go to Bob Jones University. It's calling for you clearly. See, easy solution! You could also try BYU or any other religious college. Perhaps you should go to college so you can learn how to use google to find these universities that fit YOUR political agenda...?

Only the uneducated would claim a higher educational degree is no good or worthless. The reality is every corporation requires some degree, otherwise they will pass you over.

You always want to ask those who fall into the minority of college graduates. Why not ask a CEO, lawyer, CPA, doctor, nurse, engineer?

Oh yes, the male internet troll being brave...anonymously. How many failed projects have been designed by all male teams? Way more. The idea that diversity here was the problem is only valid if you claim women are less competent engineers than men. That's simply false. Sorry to shrink your...well whatever it is you call that thing...

FYI, there are plenty of doctors that don't know how to draw blood. I bet there are doctors that don't know how to replace a wall socket.

Yeah your "interpretation" of that legislation is incorrect. Here's what it actually did in summary bullet points, none of which contributed to the already rising college costs.

    • Ending the process of the federal government giving subsidies to private banks to give out federally insured loans. Instead loans will be administered directly by the Department of Education.[23]
    • Increasing the Pell Grant scholarship award.
    • For new borrowers of loans starting in 2014, those who qualify would be able to cap the amount they must spend on loan repayment each month to 10% of their discretionary income, down from 15%.[22]
    • For new borrowers after 2014, loans would be eligible to be forgiven to those who make timely payments after 20 years, down from 25 years previously.[22]
    • making it easier for parents to take out federal loans for students.[24]
    • using several billion dollars to fund schools that predominantly serve poor and minority students, as well as increasing community college funding.[23]

The reason tuition costs rise is because baby boomers created a high demand for it. They pushed their children to get college degrees for less than sound reasons. Even today, people get masters degrees for reasons that confound me. The costs will rise until people stop going to college, which will happen because of supply and demand, and that will force colleges to reevaluate. It's that simple.

As in, 100 dollars a year...??? Do you mean a six figure salary? That's not hard to get in America. It also doesn't mean much anymore when you add up the cost of things. I love in a two six figure house hold and we still have a budget. And we don't live it up by any means. So I fail to see your point.

So you would rather use a bridge designed by someone who doesn't have a degree. How about flying in an airplane. Or maybe the uneducated don't make mistakes my :)
