Well, it looks like Austin is set to become the next big CRAP HOLE in America! I guess they were inspired by the filthy, rotten cesspool's of Los Angeles and San Francisco! Back in June the idiotic Austin council repealed a law which made it illegal to camp out in public!

It doesn't exactly help when the JOKE 9th Circuit Court of Appeals ruled that criminalising public sleeping is unconstitutional
when there is inadequate shelter space! :roflol: Yes, I'm sure that this is what the founders meant! :roflol:

Most homeless people suffer from severe drug addiction and mental illness. I guess the theory is that the best way for them to get better is to let them lie in their own filth for the rest of their lives. How compassionate!

The Washington Post asks the question: Should people have a right to sleep on city streets?

My answer is NO OF COURSE NOT! What's yours?

Yes. So long as they're not blocking traffic.

The simple fact is that they have to exist somewhere. We can't force them to get a job and be self sufficient, and throwing them in jail isn't any cheaper than giving them all housing. Let them stay on public property.

What do you suggest as an alternative? They won't support themselves and theres no way to make them support themselves. Anywhere we 'put' them we will have to pay for them. How much more in taxes will you pledge to make this happen?

Of course they should have that right. I mean doesn't every city deserve the chance to have Typhoid, Hepatitis C and Bubonic epidemics like So Cal? What about more homeless heroin addicts than high school students like the Bay Area? And how can we forget the stench of a third world country's lack of public sewer permeating the air as many liberal run areas of our inner cities already have.

But can we HELP them to get a job and be self sufficient?

Sure. But until we succeed, shall they sleep on the street for free, or will you pay to put them up somewhere (apts and jails are both pretty expensive)?

Okay, and are these cities doing anything to help that?

Are you saying that homeless shelters are PERMANENTLY full?

Closed military bases are an excellent place to start.

They will find their way back.

The options here are very simple:
we let them choose where they want to live at no cost to us, or we put them somewhere else and pick up their tab. I pay enough taxes already... how much more do you want to pay?

Am two blocks from the capital building in Austin right now, ever since this ruling was passed the homeless have become far more belligerent and aggressive. The Chief of Police is not happy, or shy about it.

when there is inadequate shelter space"

since its your OP, you tell me- are the shelters full?

Internment camps in the desert outside the city

Fence them in where they can crap all over the sand if they please without hurting anyone except themselves

Most people don't realize how shelters work. They have special rules and won't take anyone in after 8:00, and often the homeless person can't keep staying there for more than a month.
Some of them only take women, and many do not accept families.

In other cases homeless people may refuse to sleep there because of the overcrowded conditions, or risk of their belongings being stolen. There's also a high chance of getting sick or catching a cold from all the homeless people housed together in close proximity.

These are not people just down on their luck man, these are professional homeless. They do this for a living. They are aggressive and predatory. Watch how they aggressively harass these 19 year old college kids and you'll be saying the same things I am.

How much more can we raise your taxes to pay for the guards that will be needed to keep them there?

You've already been paying for the homeless for years.

HUD secretary says a homeless person costs taxpayers $40,000 a year

Violence is illegal. Lock them up for assault. Not for sleeping.

Yeah, let's see how long they last in the free desert. No guards necessary!

The shelter is a few blocks from me over on 7th St. It is busy and crowded, but not full. It is very dangerous for those who are weak or women, so a lot of homeless avoid it.

Spend the money on a homeless camp far away from LA and the libs out there will not have to raise taxes at all to pay for it
