Here's a tidbit of history.

80% of the slaves brought across the Atlantic were taken to the Caribbean--NOT the South.

Sugar from Caribbean islands like Jamaica was used in the production of rum which immensely profitable for the French and British monarchies. These few islands made more money than all of the Colonies put together.

Wars were fought and peace treaties signed just for possession of these islands.

The life span of a slave in these swamp and mosquito-infested islands was two years, or less. They needed replacing constantly.

FYI, most of the blacks sold to slave holders were bought from other blacks who captured them in Africa. Back then blacks were selling blacks. Not much different than what's happening in Chicago, Baltimore, St. Louis, etc, today with blacks shooting each other.

Slavery was and in some places still is, a WORLD problem. In America, it was the Southern states which defended it. The Northern states sacrificed 350,000--500,000 lives to end it.

You forgot to mention a piece of Europe's history in slavery.

In the second half of the 19th century, King Leopold of Belgium acquired the entire Belgian Congo as his personal property. He turned it into a slave state and made every native work to enrich himself. He had overseers chop of the hands of those who failed to fulfill their work quotas--this with the support of other European powers.

An Irishman named Casement exposed this genocide with the help of an Independent press in America and Europe which forced the Belgian government to take the Congo away from Leopold.
