See, the thing about walls is that on a strategic level, they don't stop anybody by themselves. It's only MANNED walls that can actually stop people. A mere wall can be climbed, cut through or dug under. Ladders, rope, shovels and acetylene torches are very effective tools.

Problem is, our southern border is 2000 miles long. It's just not feasible to staff a wall that long. Just as the Romans found with Hadrian's Wall, and the Chinese found with the Great Wall.
    http://www.rationaloptimist.com/blog/hadrians-wall-was-a-marvellous-mistake-so-is-hs2/
    http://blog.tutorming.com/expats/was-the-great-wall-china-effective-did-it-work

So THAT is why building the wall, even if we did it, would be a monumentally expensive and stupid mistake.

But wait, you say! We have the Border Patrol manning the border.

There are 16,000 BP agents guarding the southern border. Even if every single one was on the border catching people, that's 8 per mile. If we wanted to adequately staff a border-length wall, we would need to drastically increase that number -- again, at huge expense.

The most cost-effective way to deal with border security is to reduce the incentive to come here, not build a wall. That means:

    1. Crack down on employers who hire illegal aliens
    2. Work with the source countries to improve conditions at home, so their people have an incentive to stay home
    3. Prioritize enforcement/deportation on the most dangerous elements

We should make crossing the border as difficult as we can for a reasonable cost, because that helps incentivize people to stay home. Strategically placed walls are a legitimate part of that. But the key there is "for a reasonable cost", and it has to be part of a comprehensive immigration plan that also addresses root causes of illegal immigration.

I think President Trump might be the first President to actually build stuff in the private sector.

I've known a few who worked on Trump's construction projects and they say he knows about construction including the building codes and can spot code violations and shoddy workmanship faster than a NYC or LA building inspector.

You think that someone who refers to concrete as "powerful" and rebar as "powerful" is knowledgeable LOL. He talked crap and then embarrassed the head of the Army Corps

Then why have we built them in the past with 90%+ reductions in illegal apprehensions after construction.

Or those of us who sit and listen to people we know who've lived in San Diego all their lives tell us that before they started building walls, illegals would stream over their property at night.

I have not seen any facts or data that proves that the walls had a 90% affect on illegals crossing over.

I had read these reports before but there is nothing but that the FBI is investigating of crime. There are no indictments. There is no proof of a crime. Maybe there will be a crime identified but there is no crime identified yet. Maybe there will be or maybe there will not be an indictment. You are as I understand it saying that was a crime.
I said prove show that there was a crime and we will indict.
