It's a high school, not a prison. That's exactly how it works.

At the elementary and middle schools, they can only leave with a parent or guardian, and that parent or guardian has to go into the office, show ID and check them out. But the high school is more open, because high school.

You are not familiar with modern schools, and yet you don't believe people who have kids in school. You clearly prefer your pre-conceived notions to reality. That's a really terrible way to approach the world.

I read the PDF another poster put on and you are not saying what I'm reading in official school policy. I'll believe the official rules not you

I taught typing at the beginning of my teaching career. You could have run across me and been told to get good job training--a business degree, technical degree, professional training, etc.
    Lots of stories like yours.

My wife and I met in our last year of high school, so as long as she wanted she had a male friend who was interested in her getting an education, too. We've been married 53 years.

You mean the official rules you misunderstood, had explained to you, and continued to insist on misunderstanding?

Attendance at school is compulsory as a general proposition. But the system is not "miss a day and you go to jail."

The PDF you refer to defines excused absences. It also spells out how the district handles unexcused absences.
-- On Page 14, you'll learn that when a student has an unexcused absence, they record it.
-- On Page 25, you can read about the "Ten Day Rule", which is just a bookkeeping thing that happens when a student collects 10 unexcused absences.
-- On Page 26, you can read about the full response to unexcused absences.
-- -- After three such absences, principal must notify the parents.
-- -- After six such absences, principal must notify the parents in writing that they may be prosecuted
-- -- After 10 absences, the principal must determine if the parents are making a good-faith effort, and if not, notify the DA and social workers.

Practically speaking, that means a kid can have 9 unexcused absences per year and nothing important happens.

You might also note that the compulsory attendance policy only applies to students 16 and under in N.C. So a lot of juniors and most seniors aren't necessarily required to show up.

    Exactly.

    And a good point I neglected--After 16, a student can drop out.

Actually, the cheerleaders weren't given the boot, they were put on probation--by the state cheerleading group they belong too. The school in question is 15 minutes from my door, and I've heard all the scuttle-butt about what happened. There were rumors of people coming to the game to protest the fact that the girls couldn't display their banner. There were also rumors that others were going to show up to counter the first group. The whole thing turned a football game into a joke based on the possibility of radical folks showing up, not for the sports, but for the politics. None of this had anything to do with the school supporting or not supporting Trump or the cheerleaders.

Would you say the same thing if it were a pro liberal democrat banner?

And from every article I read on this schools imposed no such sanctions as the ones you listed on these kids while they did on the cheerleaders. That's the issue here.

The school did not impose sanctions on the cheerleaders. They are part of a state cheerleading organization and that organization put them on probation because of a rule infraction.

A distinction without a difference. All part of the liberal education system

A distinction that makes what you said a false statement. You're claiming the school is a liberal education system and that it punished the girls. This is a very pro-Trump part of the state, and if the school was all that liberal, the administration would be gone, and as I said, the school did not punish the girls.

The liberal public schools dont give a damn whether the state is red or blue

Lib educators are like bureaucrats in washington

They get paid the same whether you like their policies or not

And even if it were the school and not the state organization sanctioning the cheerleaders, it would be because the offenses were different: one involves an unexcused absence, one involves violating a school rule.

Always "different" when liberals do it. "That's different " is the standard response

They should be kicked off the team all of them who are behind this!

It's not as if right wingers don't want people kicked off the team when they bring in politics into the game.
But now, when the tables are turned,.... hypocrisy.

It's about the double standard here. Children excused from clas for every liberal protest including the recent teacher strike while coming down hard on the cheer leaders

Think what you like and I will enjoy my day. Beautiful here and I was out burning logging slash all morning. Shoulder hurts though due to recently being broken in a mt bike crash so I'll spend the afternoon enjoying the sunshine on my porch. TMI? :)

What's your plans besides being an angry at everything and everyone liberal? lol

The only double standard here are right wingers who want to fire Rapinoe from the national soccer squad for her political expressions, but defend these cheerleaders when they are at it.
