It says in the OT to either cover it or shave it off. Christians threw OT out the window, but they did keep covering their head until just about 100 years ago..

Some still do cover today... aimish i think.... and maybe some weird sects

this is kinda silly imo..... do we think god really cares?
Maybe it comforts believers that they are doing “gods will”
But looking at such things from the outside.... it makes religion look even more absurd
Cutting off foreskins and wearing scarves.....???
    What kinda god is that?

The only source for Christians to practice this comes from the apostle Paul, but even he admitted his advice did not come from the "Holy Spirit". So, it was never obligatory for Christians.
But, then, as Jesus said, to know the truth is to be free.

As it turns out, many people find their freedom in the freedom FROM TRUTH.
When truth does not matter.... isn’t that the greatest freedom?
And what deliver this freedom more efficiently than proclaiming your reliance on a transcendent truth that you pull ou of yout rectum.

Why does any religion make dress code requirements? Shouldn't religion be a thing of the mind and heart?

Religious dress codes are a big money-maker for some cliques that get the concessions to make and sell the garments. The Mormons have their magic underwear; the muslims have their burkas; and the Jews have their black suits and hats.

Why should one sex cover their head but not the other?

Because the other is easily sexually aroused just by looking at certain body parts of the opposite sex. It is a sign of modesty.

    You said
Isn't that a bit of an overreaction? What is the problem with the things you mentioned?

What if someone gets their son circumcised for the health and aesthetical benefits? What if someone likes to wear a head scarf? Do you find a hat too ridiculous also?

If the religion is incapable of doing what you claim the dress does, how much good can it be? Break it down...you wear certain clothes so you'll feel better about a belief system. It's like having to take a drug to ensure compliance.

Oh please....women get aroused too, ya know...(or don't you?)

Are you saying women must cover their entire body because men aren't responsible for their own actions?

Some men get off on feet....are women required to completely cover their feet?

    Their eyes, their cheeks?

Why don't men have to be modest?

You're not being logical. If you dress a woman into short shorts, sandals and a top that doesn't quite reach their navel from ages 5 to 25,theyre going to be affected by it.

The Eastern Orthodox largely do. but not so much in the US. The priests also wear funny hats at times. They are certainly weird, but they don't qualify as a sect.

I don't think they care what outsiders think to be honest.

Generally it takes a lot more for women to become aroused than just looking.
no, is that how you read it?
actually many do think it is.
    Some think so, but no.
    They do.

"Generally" does NOT count...And all women are different no matter what Islam says.

That was in response to " Are you saying women must cover their entire body because men aren't responsible for their own actions?""

What do you mean "no" ?

If a woman must do something , like cover her hair, in order to be kept from being raped then THAT TAKES AWAY MEN'S RESPONSIBILITY FOR THEIR OWN ACTS...

It is a way to hold WOMEN responsible for being raped!!!! ….and then stoned for being raped....DISGUSTING!!!!!!!

OH???? Since when do men have to wear headscarves and long flowing robes to cover their entire bodies ???

    And my post still stands:

Shirt sleeves would not be considered proper dress for a man in KSA. I think its a combination of things.. covering the hair and face protects both from the ravages of sandstorms and the desert sun... modesty of course.. Over time these became part of the culture and tradition.

I like the way men dress in Arabia.. Its neater and cooler than trousers and shirts. At the end of the day they look fresher than their American counterparts.

None of that has anything to do with religion, which demands women wear headscarves. My post has not been refuted.

I don't care because I consider ALL religions sexist.

Once I saw some Muslims at a park. It was close to 90 degrees, the women were swathed in black robes, the men had khaki pants and short sleeved shirts.....I believe the men were cooler ...and the women didn't need protection from sandstorms which aren't a common occurrence in the Midwest..
