Look. You posted a link about farm policy in the New Deal. I’m a farmer. If they were paying people not to farm, I’d be tempted. I wouldn’t do it because I wouldn’t be able to sleep at night, but I’d know about it.

There is a new Farm bill passed every few years. Recent farm bills promote overproduction. Payments to take land out of production (being paid not to farm) ended with the 1996 farm bill dubbed the “Freedom to Farm” act. The CRP (Conservative Reserve Program) program still exists in a limited capacity. It pays annual payments to landowners who enroll land for multi year periods. The land is planted to perennial species, usually native grasses, and managed to simulate land in its “natural state”. Land that is highly erodible or has poor soil quality has priority for enrollment. Thus the name “conservation”. It is an environmentally drive policy, not a price control policy.

Ironically, your blast from the New Deal past link to the AAA stated it was ruled unconstitutional by the Supreme Court. It was revised before being implemented by FDR. In other news, women have secured the right to vote, and slavery has been ended. :)

Fantastic post on the subject as usual.

In N.C. where I live, the permits to grow cotton are embedded into the land. You can't just buy a permit and start growing. You have to buy the land that has the right to grow cotton. I guess it is a way of keeping things controlled.

I was talking about spending time in the outdoors, and being a part of that circle of life. I guess the kill is part of it, but it is not that exclusively.
Personally, I feel far worse about buying meat from the store. Those animals suffer far more than the animals in the wild.

WTF does woman's voting have to do with any of this. That said, farm subsidies exist and they help mostly corporate farms.

Oh look, another liberal who wants to misrepresent the changes to food stamps without even having an f'ing clue what she's talking about

"Rep. Alexandria Ocasio-Cortez, D-N.Y., received pushback Thursday after claiming her family "might've just starved" had the Trump administration's tightened requirements for food stamp recipients been in place when her father died in 2008.

Critics claimed the freshman congresswoman misrepresented the new rule, pointing out that it applies only to childless, able-bodied adults under 50."

You claimed farmers are paid not to farm. In fact they are paid to overproduce. Just the opposite of your claim. Your links were all as irrelevant to the subject as women’s suffrage. That was my point.

Corporate farms are so rare as to be statistically insignificant. You can’t believe all the silly things you are told.

Fish is the best form of protein, in terms of health outcomes. Pelagic fish are usually oily (Omega 3, good for brain development, heart health, eye health, and respiratory health). Chicken may be cheaper, but it doesn't have the health benefits of fish. The idea is to both feed, and reduce the healthcare burden arising from unhealthy diets.

Chili is a great dish for the health and budget conscious. We do the same but without meat. I use an all bean (red kidney and black) and vegetable base. Made with cold smoked garlic instead of smoked paprika, it's more work but a much better outcome. The usual sweet and straight paprikas go in too, of course. A good dash of extra virigin olive oil in at the end for richness.

If you're that skint, you wouldn't be buying disposable diapers, you'd be using cloth. More to the point, you wouldn't be having babies.

This does not affect senior citizens, maybe you should read the article before expressing your expertise on the subject.
