    Without meaning to be over dramatic.... the situation reminds me of the lead up to WWI.....probably everyone is trying to react sensibly, but one persons sensible reaction is another persons outrage. It is pretty easy for events to develop an inexorable inertia far beyond anyone’s conscious intent

    Anything is better than appeasement.

    Any smart person with an ounce of brain would recognize the simple fact we are already at war and it was Iran's choice.

    Strategy... Yehh, Trump has demonstrated that he abhors engaging in war, committing our blood & treasure abroad. Pinpoint strikes is the best way to preclude war. U do know that Qasem Soleimani was planning a restaurant terror attack here in the US (on the heels of his embassy attack, btw) which would have created a far greater impetus toward the furtherance of large scale engagement - had it been successfully carried out. Strategery you ask - Yehh, take bad actors out of pivotal congratulatory scenarios proactively... Duhh, lol. :)

    It was the US choice to back the Shah for decades while the people suffered and why when they overthrew him they shouted "Death to America". The whole situation is much more complicated than that but it is a point to consider when one is saying it was "Iran's choice". They would/are saying that the US did nothing while so many were brutalized by a dictator.

    This is very confusing. A "restaurant terror attack"? That information is known how? US intelligence? The people Trump doesn't trust? Did he get it from his call with Putin? Putin is not ever going to be known as a "reliable source". I think it's possible that he's pulling Trumps puppet strings.
    What is Russia's interest in all this....by the way? Don't they have a border with Iran?

    Then by default Trump has a strategy and that strategy is to not get us into a new war by doing pinpoint targeted strikes.

    1. The Shah was reforming when they overturned him and the primary goal of the revolution was to steal all the western oil infrastructure from fossil fuel companies.

    Then right after that they invaded Iraq and took America's hostage, since then they've been causing mayhem all around the middle east.

    Iran has been at war with us since 79. Goid thing they are impotent.. but it's time we recognize a state of war was exsisted all this time and it's cost trillions of dollars and millions of lives, just like all indecisive long term wars fought with political considerations.

    Better a 6 month stand up fight with a decisive winner than decades of this crap.

    Lastly......where do you get that stuff about us 'relying on' you? Whenever you want a military ally, the very first door you knock on is Australia.
