Military from every country join to serve their country, they are conditioned to following orders, they run into danger where others run away from it. There's no chance in hell that any US solider or any solider in any country for that matter will turn from his sworn duty and allegiance to their country. It's called patriotism, perhaps you've heard of it.

How old are you? Are you old enough to remember the first gulf war? Saddams troops surrendered in droves.

Yes, but almost always "patriotism" is used by mafiosi politician for their personnal gain. Let's take an example, a lot of german sacrificed themselves for Germany during WW1 and WW2, what did they won ? Death and the ruin of their country. One of the best patriotic act remain to stay alive.
The number of times that patriotism wasn't used to send some men in an useless slaughtery could be probably counted on the finger of a single hand.
Furthermore, I noticed that some people which encourage the most other people to die for patriotism or any other cause tend to spend way too much time alive themselves. Too much people would says "let's die for the nation" but would prefer their neighbour to die first.

Starting a war is dangerous business, as both Hitler and Hirohito learned.

If you want to know how old I am, I remember the Bay of Pigs invasion as though it was yesterday. And, WTF does the Gulf War have to do with anything?

You're French, so I get it. Ya'll have quite the reputation. Obviously the U.S. should have taken your advice and left you to the NAZIS. My how we have forgotten.....why your asses aren't speaking German.

You can in pretty much any Western military, including the US military. If your CO orders you to walk into a school, drag out and shooy one by one i the head 8 year olds it is legal to disobey this order, subject to legal **** later of course.

I think 'Prison better than death' Is quite debatable. I would rather take my chances on any battlefield than waste my best years locked up with degenerates.

However, I do believe combat should be voluntary. Not only is it ethically wrong to force someone into combat, its also strategically foolish.

However, military discipline relies on orders being followed. Servicemembers who volunteer for combat should be expected to follow all lawful orders. If there arent severe penalties for for failure to do so, the military simply won't be any good for anything.

These guys knew what they were signing up for and choose to face the risk willingly. Some even enthusiastically. I bet you can't even understand that, can you.

What country do you live in?

You could end up in Leavenworth prision doing hard time if you disobey a direct order or even worse.

When you join the US military, the military owns you. We all know that in the USA

Those guys didn't sign up to fight and then chicken out, they faced their misgivings prior to promising to fight.

If you sign up for Infantry and then refuse to fight, you are a coward.
