So you say that if I pray, saying "Father, show me your truth. I submit fully to Thee with complete vulnerability, and ask that you protect me from all evil with your Holy power at this time. I trust that whatever I receive shall be Thy truth and will believe and trust." ..... that there is a good chance He will betray my trust and tell Satan "have your way with him! Do what you will unto him!" ?????

What kind of god do you have there?????

What you are referring to is of man. You are trusting man above God. And your manner on this forum shows it.

Your problem is two fold: you take the Bible literally, and you trust man and his thoughts above God's.

Your behavior here shows what kind of "god" you know and what kind of "minister" you are. It's all very clear.

You submit to a book and display evil. I submitted to God and received richly. You have fooled yourself.

"The Spirit of the Lord is upon me, because he has anointed me to proclaim good news to the poor" (Luke 4:18).
"God anointed Jesus of Nazareth with the Holy Spirit and with power."Acts 10:38
Acts 4:26-27 calls Jesus God's Anointed.

I don't see any oil used here.

There is no passing on of sacrements etc in the laying on of hands and anointing. It is merely conferring authority to the anointed to practise the sacrements etc.

Sorry if my honesty hurts your tender feelings but you just told a pack of lies about me and all I did was tell the truth about you.

Here the bishop and priests lay their hands on the head of each ordinand, and the bishop says

Send down the Holy Spirit on your servant N

for the office and work of a priest in your Church.

When the bishop has laid hands on all of the ordinands, the prayer continues

    Through your Spirit, heavenly Father,

give these your servants grace and power42

to proclaim the gospel of your salvation

and minister the sacraments of the new covenant.

    Renew them in holiness,

and give them wisdom and discipline

to work faithfully with those committed to their charge
    .

Bishops ordain. The Holy Spirit provides the spiritual gifts. not the Bishop.

Do you know what a sacrament is? It doesn't sound like it. You don't think ordination is a sacrament?

How does anybody anoint anyone without using oil? Ever read the OT?
I see, how many ordinations have you performed, your Grace?

Where did you get this ritual from?

Where did you learn liturgical theology?

I just thought I'd stop you right there to show you what aggravates me about people like you. No sooner do I post anywhere, for the past 20 years I find the some want to be amateur "theologian" tries to teach me my business. They're usually atheists, Jews, Jehovah's Witnesses, or some kind of fringe cult who has no idea of what they are talking about, then they proceed to call me an impostor so they can make themselves feel like big men.

Again: where did you learn liturgical theology?

Sorry. That ritual is from the C of E ordination of Priests There's a similar ordination for deacons.

Liturgical Theology. The study of the meaning of Christian worship. Well, after almost a lifetime of study I'm sure I know something. In fact there are many laymen who are more into the meaning of Christian religion/worship than many Priests. I've sat through many a galloped Eucharist service without any sense of devotion to the task by the Priest. How many Priests are able to 'preach' even a short sermon without their tablet to read from. It's rather like watching the news on TV. There's no eye contact with the congregation - who are watching other things or considering their pub lunch. When a Vicar asked his curate after a service why his parishioners were making for the pub the Curate replied 'that's the thirst after righteousness'.
I spent a few years in a village where the only place of worship was the Anglican Church. I was welcomed there and eventually played the organ for them. They asked me to take some courses in the Anglican tradition, which I did, This included a session with a Catholic Priest who could not even answer questions asked on the Catholic faith or the Bible. Some on the Catholic faith he had to look up.
The Catholics have a latin saying 'Lex orandi, lex credendi, lex vivendi. As we worship, so we believe, so we live. MMM.

I know I'm late to the thread, but i found this today and was going to make a thread, but this seems to be a better place to put it.

So I think that this idea that the bible was anti-homosexual has been mistranslated and misinterpreted (perhaps deliberately so) away from Pedophilia.

Yes, I am familiar with the ordination of Priests and Deacons. Which BCP, there are several. I know the difference, I just want to know if you know.

From the context of your comments about the service in the Church you allegedly played the organ.it looks like your knowledge is superficial to nonexistent. More later.

Read what I said about studies. And look at the Common Worship Ordination Service. There is only one BCP used, at least in England. . It has been altered over the years. What you, and other churches (Anglican) use elsewhere I don't know. The Anglican Church worldwide has different views.

So I 'allegedly' played the organ. That's good from a pseudo Priest. .

Yeah, that's why I say you allegedly played the organ, since you questioned my veracity.

Common Worship is the latest BCP from the CofE I believe, although the Continuing and Realignment Churches use the historical BCPs.

At the end of the day you can use whatever your Bishop authorizes you to use, we are authorized to use two, plus rites from other English speaking versions.

But, it's not enough to just read the service, you have to know the roots of where it came from and what it means. It really has nothing to do with whether you read your sermon or not. The important thing is getting your point across, some guys have stage fright so bad ad libbing a sermon is out of the question. But that's not liturgical theology, either.

When I get time I'll post some of the questions from my liturgical theology text so you can show us all what you know, since you think you know more than I do.

I wasn't the one who questioned your status.

If Priests get stage fright they should not be Priests. What is supposedly the great command? 'Go ye into all the world and preach.........' Facing a congregation of just a few or hundreds becomes natural - if it doesn't - give up. Do you really think you are contacting your congregation by reading from a tablet/script. Sufficient time should be given to absorb what you are going to say and that takes time and study. when preaching a sermon. A few memory jogging notes should be sufficient. And preaching on the 'Theme for this Sunday'. Special Sundays maybe. The rest of the time the priest should know what his congregation need in the way of teaching or exhortation.

The story goes that one Sunday morning the congregation arrived at the church to find it locked. On the door was a note from the Priest which said. 'Over the years I've told you what to do. Now go and do it'. .

I'm not interested in your liturgical theology. As an agnostic it's meaningless to me. The BCP. the Magnificat, the Nunc Dimittis etc are all irrelevant to today. Mary's song was for Mary to sing. And most christians don't realise that when they sing the Nunc Dimittis they are actually asking God to let them die. People compare Mary's song with Hannahs song in the OT. but they stem from different emotions. Hannahs song stems from bitterness while Mary's song from Joy. Of course both are mythical. . .

Well, the next time you see the Archbishop of Canterbury you can relay your concerns to him, but aside from that it is clear that you don't know what priests do. They don't just show up for two hours on Sunday. We do appreciate your concern and I invite you and the rest of the clowns on this page to try it yourself so we can tell you how inadequate you are.

I know exactly what Priests have to do and I don't envy them their 'job' one little bit. I have 3 friends who I have known and associated with, while they were practising their Priestly vocation, and who are now retired, 2 of these were responsible for me training in C of E practises to allow me to take part in services.
A fourth who now practises in the north of England, and a 5th female who became a Canon in a diocese in the Midlands.

Never met the Archbishop of Canterbury though I have visited the Cathedral - being born in the same county.

You chose to be a Priest. You knew what you were getting into.

Actually, I chose to be a Deacon. I was chosen to be a Priest. Not that I mind, but one of the reasons I wanted to stay a Deacon was so I'd be a lesser target for people like you, and that's the truth.

No. You chose to be a Priest, otherwise you would be a deacon. You made your own mind up. Don't blame it on anyone else. What happened to the 'calling' that most Priests claim. . Without that it is merely a job.

Do you non believers ever tire of trying to read the minds of others? It must have something to do with the arrogance of the message board culture, who think they are so far superior to us mortal beings that they know more about us than we know about ourselves, up to and including our very thoughts.

You mean someone else decided for you that you should be a Priest. And you went through all the rigorous interviews and assessments without questioning why you accepted someone else's decision. You chose. Period. For what reason is known only to you.
