It would be great to learn that many are recovering.

But, surely the important part is preventing our healthcare system from being overloaded.

Hospitals can save people who have serious symptoms - including but not limited to those in "high risk" groups.

As they get full, lose staff, run out of equipment, or whatever, they become less able to save people.

I keep hearing people saying that there is "panic".

Outside of Wall Street, I haven't seen any of that. I HAVE seen Fox and others claim that ANY concern is ridiculous and that COVID is a partisan conspiracy.

I'm glad to see that we're making progress.

My main concern is that we were lied to in a rather serious way for at least a couple months and less so seriously since then.

AND, I've seen no specific pushback on the lies coming from Fox, Rushbo and others who have set out to misinform the public for explicity partisan purpose.

After this is over, if it gets as bad as it looks like it will get, class-action lawsuits might well wipe out the rw media. You can be damn sure that they will be held responsible for killing people. I don't see criminal prosecutions so much as civil. But they could he huge.

CPAC and Mar a Lago are exhibits 1 and 2.

Please, people just relax! The USA is the largest industry in the world, and its technology and abilities are unmatched!

Americans can count on the preparations the Trump administration and the Republicans have a handle on the problems!

Uh, wait, foolish people are asking to have the federal goverment who have spent an trillion dollars for technology and preparations actually supply ventilators, pharmaceutical drugs, masks, actual hospital equipment?

Trump says screw that! Governors need to buy that itselves!

But how about some nuclear MYOB bonds or supersonic fighters? Governors need some of that firepower to get rid of them illegals!

I blame China for how their leaders handled their Country, I blame our leaders for how they handled ours

Trump has not really done anything, it was his lying, contradicting experts and claiming mission accomplished I had issues with, this was coming no mater what Trump did, had Trump not played it down, maybe we could have slowed the spread a little more though early on

Trump pretty much passed it on to pence once he realized this was bigger than he could handle, wasn't just something he could call "fake news" or a "dem hoax" and it would go away

You wasted all that time to complain about the President and to declare you'll put me on the ignore list? See, stuff like this is why I quit being a Liberal. Intellectualism has hollowed out in the once prideful party of intelligence.

"If it looks as bad as it looks." We're STILL flaggering way behind Italy and China. Why is it that there's this "look at the rest of the world" to cite the need for action, but not the same outlook when it comes to comparing the two. We're fine. It's fine. Relatively speaking, we're still better off.

Well, of course we can work to have a closer, more open relationship with countries shuch as China.

While China has handed us some serious issues with viruses, I would note that we have also faced biohreats from Africa and other places.

And, we could be attacked by something manufactured by a rogue state.

My own view is that we should have plans in place for how to handle our first line defenses - social distancing, isolation, protection for first responders, how to handle food distribution, coordination with s and other issues that we are experiencing, In this case, our government wasn't aware of laws in place for expeiting testing.

It should also include public education.

FEMA does planning like that for natural disasters. FEMA knows the laws, states and FEMA know what to do and what to expect. They don't always get it right, but by being permanent they can learn from experience.

We do have experts in many of the separate parts - CDC, NSC, etc. But, we have not hand a FEMA like agency that can roll a plan into action when we're hit.

Given the time lines on several of the important processes we have implemented, I'm convinced that advance work would have saved us at least a couple months.

agree, and hell im prone to rants myself but I do my best to not make it personal.

there are plenty of reasons to complain about legit concerns, no need for a bunch of made up nonsense.

edit: fwiw open dialogue is better than just complaining for the sake of it.

yes, this is a reminder that in this case we are being reactionary, and preplanning obviously fell short. We can and should learn from this.

I'm not saying he doesn't deserve blame I especially was shocked by the recent Chicago airport footage of passengers returning from Europe. I just notice that we're reaching the point where China needs to be put to task in a real way for their handling of this.

We can prepare but if we aren't aware that there is a problem that preparation isn't nearly as effective.

We had more heads up than Europe. And look how we (didn't) take advantage of that knowledge. After this has passed heads should roll. Starting with trump.

China needs to be held accountable for not telling the truth upfront too

    leaders need to be truthful

I know that is weird for us Americans to say when we have Trump

Relax, I just did a quick update. We're so far behind China and Italy, it's not even funny. Not that I want us to catch up of course, but we're a snail by comparison.

    No kidding.

Having Trump at the Helm is AKIN to Putting an IMBECILE in Charge of Public Health.

    Oh, what did I mean by use of the word "AKIN";

TRUMP IS AN IMBECILE IN CHARGE OF PUBLIC HEALTH

Anyway, Trump has no idea what he is talking about.

And it is a TRAGEDY that this Mistakenly-Elected IMBECILE is Making Decisions that May Affect Life and Death. :smh:

Maybe he should have closed our borders? The left would never allow that but it's common sense. You dont close the barn door, after the horse is galloping away!

Malarky. Maybe he should just go bomb Americans, overseas?

Isn't the Surgeon General in charge of the bolded?
