And I would venture to say that the effectivness of a SAH order is pretty hard to quantify or qualify.

I didn't mention it that that posting, but yes, Germany is doing extensive testing.
To be honest, no nation is doing enough and some are sorely behind the 8 Ball. Russia. India. Egypt. Venezuela. Just to name a few.

March 26 the Stay at Home order was given.
Bevor that schools, churches, bars, restaurants, barber shops, beauty parlors etc. were closed and assemblies of more than 10 people were prohibited. The measures in Colorado were constantly adjusted
Don't forget Brazil, they have a special idiot in charge

Deri is a really good guy, one of the very best out there. He is just very, very passionate about this. And, he can present an argument. I am sure you have had some Conservative colleagues who are also very, very passionate, nöööö....

That being said, overall, I think the level of non-partisanship on this thread is pretty decent. I say "I think" because I have placed some people on ignore because as this catastrophe is teaching me (and I would assume, all of us), life is short.

Believe me, when you post stats that help to bolster hope, I am very glad that you do it. We are very obviously on different part of the political spectrum, but our love of life and the wise to save others appears to be the same. And that is a good thing.

Agreed which is why other nations are adopting a "lockdown" approach similar the SK measure that was so effective. No one can leave their abodes except for essentials like groceries and for medical reasons. Anyone not abiding by these rules are fined as is the case now in France.

While not entirely foolproof they are more effective because there are penalties for noncompliance.

I've been reading up on hospital ships.

Did you know that there are only 22 hospital ships on all of the world, meaning ships that are exclusively floating hospitals? 20 belong to a specific nation, 2 are independent.

All are protected under but at the same time also restricted by the Geneva Convention.

Our two hospital ships, the Mercy and the Comfort, are by far and large the largest hospital ships in the world. Also, there are a number of major US battleships that are also equipped with a hospital inside the ship, but are not officially hospital ships, for instance, the aircraft carrier USS Gerald R. Ford.

The 2 US hospital ships are both equipped with 1,000 beds, a large ICU unit, 12 operating rooms that can operate all at once, fully equipped radiology, labs, a fully-stocked pharmacy, CT-scanner, morgue and 2 independent-from-each other oxygen producing plants. They really are fully functional large hospitals, usually on the open seas.

Regardless of anyone's political inclinations, I would venture to say that these ships are something that every American can be thankful for and proud of. And those ships combined will free-up 2,000 hospital beds elsewhere, which is going to save lives.

    1280px-USNS_Comfort._(48677005558).jpg

I asked a friend of mine about these ships. She, herself a part of the US Navy, told me that hospital ships are universally painted as blazingly white as possible so that they are easily identifiable at sea, since the Geneva Convention forbids enemy powers from attacking a hospital ship. But a hospital ship cannot block the path of an "enemy" shop, either.

    Awesome.

Some top of the line findings: Only 20 States have implemented at least three of the steps. No one is implementing the Travel Severely Limited. There are three States which are implementing zero steps and while 45 of the States have closed the educational facilities, that leaves another two States (on top of the previously mentioned no-step States) which have not closed their educational facilities.

One final note I will make is that while some States have not implemented State wide steps, I do know that some regions within the State have gone further. For example, in my area (Metro Atlanta), the mayor shut down Non-essential services and implemented a Stay at Home Order, but Georgia only shows up as 1/4.

Here's the rundown of the 50 States. I will use Acronyms for those that have been implemented. - Stay at Home (SAH), Educational Facilities Closed (EFC), Non-essential services closed (NESC), and Travel Severely Limited (TSL)
    Alabama - 1/4 (EFC)
    Alaska - 2/4 (SAH, EFC)
    Arizona - 1/4 (EFC)
    Arkansas - 1/4 (EFC)
California - 3/4 (SAH, EFC, NESC)
Colorado - 3/4 (SAH, EFC, NESC)
    Connecticut - 2/4 (EFC, NESC)
Delaware - 3/4 (SAH, EFC, NESC)
District of Columbia - 2/4 (EFC, NESC)
    Florida - 1/4 (EFC)
    Georgia - 1/4 (EFC)
Hawaii - 3/4 (SAH, EFC, NESC)
    Idaho - 2/4 (SAH, NESC)
Illinois - 3/4 (SAH, EFC, NESC)
Indiana - 3/4 (SAH, EFC, NESC)
    Iowa - 0/4
    Kansas - 2/4 (SAH, EFC)
    Kentucky - 1/4 (NESC)
Louisiana - 3/4 (SAH, EFC, NESC)
    Maine - 1/4 (NESC)
    Maryland - 2/4 (EFC, NESC)
    Massachusetts - 2/4 (EFC, NESC)
Michigan - 3/4 (SAH, EFC, NESC)
    Minnesota - 2/4 (SAH, EFC)
    Mississippi - 1/4 (EFC)
    Missouri - 1/4 (EFC)
Montana - 3/4 (SAH, EFC, NESC)
    Nebraska - 0/4
    Nevada - 2/4 (EFC, NESC)
New Hampshire - 3/4 (SAH, EFC, NESC)
New Jersey - 3/4 (SAH, EFC, NESC)
New Mexico - 2/4 (EFC, NESC)
New York - 3/4 (SAH, EFC, NESC)
North Carolina - 3/4 (SAH, EFC, NESC)

Can only speak for my neck of the woods.
People are respecting the stay at home rather well, Roads are empty, towns are empty.
My biggest concern is the homeless population, we have quiet a large one.
Drugs and alcohol abuse is rampant and they camp and sit together in large groups. If they get hit by the virus it will be a wipe out.

Thank you for doing all that hard work for us.

In summary out of a Total Nationwide Compliance for all 4 steps it comes to just 50% overall.

    TSL is 0%
    SAH is 50%
    EFC is 90%
    NESC is 60%

If we remove TSL then the Total Nationwide Compliance for only 3 steps it comes to just 67% overall.

So adding local counties and cities we could possibly be up to 70% overall.

That is still not nearly enough if we want to stop this Pandemic. We need at least 95% of all non-essential people to be locked down in their homes otherwise the death toll is going to be way higher than necessary.

To achieve that goal we need to understand that our own health depends upon each of us complying for own sakes and the sake of everyone else.

How we get to that goal is way above my pay grade.

That's great...thanks for taking time to go through those.

Texas, like Georgia, may "look" like the governor isn't doing much, but TX Gov. Abbott also gave cities and counties full decision-making authority to decide on shutdowns. Almost every city and county sent out "stay home" ordinances within a day or two.

NYC Mayor DeBlasio is speaking right now at the dock where USNS Mercy has arrived at NYC. He's mainly saying, "Thanks to everyone!" The ship got there and docked ahead of schedule by about 8 days.

This is outdated for my state. New Mexico is now 3/4 (SAH, EFC, NESC)

This list isn't right for my state nor my parents state. I'm sure it's just old or the Times didn't do there homework.

In my town, even though all non essential businesses are closed if it's open it has a full parking lot. Streets are still busy. Yep my town is full of idiots.

There's two segments of the US population that will make it impossible to achieve that goal.

1 - Teens and young adults. As we all remember, 21 year olds are invincible. Here in SF, we still had spring break groups coming down. They were on the news," We've waited TWO MONTHS for this. IT'S NOT FAIR!!!" - Kids in the neighborhood running around in groups. We're sitting on our 21-year old's neck, but we can't literally tie him to the house - if he leaves while we are sleeping, there's not much we can do. He's good for a couple of days, then the reality hits home again and it's, "but, but girlfriend!!!!!!!" This is a challenge.

2- that anti science crowd. "but but the flu kills people too!" There are threads all over this forum with people bitching that it's just not that bad.

Texas Governor greatly expanded travel restrictions yesterday from outside the state (not inside).

Abbott said he was dramatically expanding a previous executive order that requires a 14-day self-quarantine for anyone flying into Texas from New York, New Jersey, Connecticut or New Orleans. Now, the state is also mandating a 14-day self-quarantine for anyone driving into Texas from anywhere in Louisiana and for those flying in from Miami, Atlanta, Detroit and Chicago, as well as anywhere in California and Washington.

Our Florida governor did the same for anyone from NY or Louisiana. What he didn't offer is how they are supposed to do that. Our hotels are blocked from taking reservations/housing guests.
