    I don't believe so.

There is no indication that these kids were given a message that would cause them not to do this.

Our federal government, the governor of FL - who is it that stated that spring break (or any other such group activity) is to be shut down? I know who shut down baseball, music events, etc.

Who is it that told those who listened to Trish Reagan, Hannity and Rushbo were getting fake news?

When there is no clear message, you can't call them stupid.

    Not according to RushBo.

    Not according to Trish Reagan.

Not according to the governor of Florida.

I'm glad to see Trump step up his message of isolation a little bit, but the American people have heard highly mixed views on whether this is serious, whether it's just about old people, etc.

They were told repeatedly that they just need to skate through the next 2 weeks and they probably can go back to crowd activity - such as packing Easter services, which is even less social distancing than being on the beach.

Individual communities may have to isolate, say, those accessed by bridges by closing them.

REMEMBER WHEN PRESIDENT TRUMP WAS A RACIST XENOPHOBE FOR SHUTTING DOWN FLIGHTS FROM CHINA? Cape Codders petition: ‘Close the bridges:’ Alarmed by influx of New Yorkers, other out-of-staters.

“Cape Cod’s year-round residents, alarmed by an influx of out-of-state license plates amid the coronavirus outbreak, petitioning for the shutdown of the Bourne and Sagamore bridges — to keep out vacation homeowners and avoid overwhelming their small hospitals. A Change.org petition to close the bridges had nearly 5,000 signatures by Monday afternoon, calling for officials to only let in year-round residents, medical workers and trucks that deliver essential supplies.”

As for folks deliberately violating, we are a self-ruled people, we largely obey our laws because they are OUR laws. Those that view themselves as outside our society don't feel the same obligation to society that the rest of us do. But, unless they commit a felony, nobody worries about it much.

It's not really that hard to tell the difference between xenophobia and taking isolation measures recommended by medical experts in pandemic.

And, your last may or may not be true. But, that's not an excuse for failing to project a serious and consistent message so that people can make choices that consider the needs of their neighbors as well as the country as a whole.

We over exaggerate social distancing somewhat. Yes, it can slow the spread but it won’t kill the virus. This is a test to see who is brave and who stays home and does what they’re told.

Example of bravery. A Florida man was arrested after his Sunday service was packed. Faith is essential during a time like this. This is an example of the idiocy behind these orders. I personally applaud the people who went on spring break. Fear is keeping people at home

COVID 19 is not a life or death situation, there’s no reason for the death penalty. You have a functioning immune system and in good health, this too will pass like the normal flu. I used to take everything Dr. Fauci said for face value, but now the doctor is beginning to exaggerate himself. 100-200 thousand deaths as a result overall is an exaggeration at best.

We haven’t even reached the amount of deaths H1N1 caused. Its like there’s no reason to wear a mask unless you’re immune compromised or elderly.

You can catch COVID 19 by touching an infected surface, so six feet or six miles away, you’re really not any safer than if you did everything these experts said to do. That’s what makes social distancing questionable, if not potentially redundant. Again, go back to how viruses spread. Droplets on a countertop are as infectious as droplets coming out of another human directly. It’s a way of controlling people, really. Stay at home and don’t think for yourselves, let us do the thinking for you or get arrested if you try to live life. I’m for bigger government but this is where our government is failing us.

Fauci is not the only expert who is giving numbers that large.

And, if you read what he says there is a big factor that has to do with what OUR response is. Do we stay at home? Do we go to spring break and then fan out across the nation?

When that number has been used in the past it had to do with what would happen if we didn't do an adequate job of physical distancing, travel, staying home, etc.

Today, 18 states either have NO "stay at home" order or have one that covers only parts of the state. FL has open beaches except in certain counties where local leaders stepped up. Etc.

No. "Stay at home" is not the only behavior experts are calling for.

They also specify washing your hands frequently and seriously, don't touch your face, clean whatever you bring into your home (since COVID can live on stuff like cardboard, for quite a while), wash your clothes after going out (with directionns on how), take special care in cleaning your home, etc.

These aren't so easy to turn into a public policy, obviously.

Which governors are communicating this to their citizens? When has Trump ever mentioned this?

I'll post this here, since this has sorta become the ventilator talk thread, which is good, because maybe some good info can be shared here, and make up for the dangerous nonsense posted by the OP.

Okay, I'll set the record straight on the latest attempt to smear the bad Orange Man.
Yeah, simmer down, it's just dead batteries.

I looked up the make and model.

    GEDvISE.jpg

Approved by the FDA is 2008. Stockpiled by FEMA probably around 2012.

Batteries in life support medical equipment are supposed to be changed every 2 years, and 4 years in the absolute max lifespan. Those vents have been sitting in a warehouse for 8 years. Those unit's batteries were stone dead before Trump even took office.

Relax, it's just batteries. You can swap them out in about 10 minutes and for about 20 bucks a pop.

So, dead batteries in Obama-era ventilators that'll be swapped out in a day for the cost of a couple thousand bucks, and the ventilators will be good to go, right?

    NOPE!

TRUMP'S MALFUNCTIONING VENTILATORS OF DEATH ARE LITERALLY GOING TO SLAUGHTER INNOCENT BABIES AND KITTENS!

And you wonder why journalists are below Wuhan bat soup on the food chain?

Jokes, you should try and get them.

I was clearly using rhetoric to illustrate my point that the media had to take a minor technical hiccup that basically had nothing to do with Trump, and they had to present it as a life-threatening failure of Trump's administration.

You seriously can't spot the media spin?

You seriously didn't see my humor?

    Are you a Vulcan?

Who accused Trump or described it as life threatening?

I'm just curious. I don't like that kind of reporting, either.

I do not see it as responsible to take a story of the type you describe and then use it to take a swipe at the whole media industry.

And, the only OTHER choice is to identify what story it is that you are objecting to.

    So - just post one.

I can probably find others of the same kind.

    I hope you are right.

We went from 1 death to 10 in 4 days.
    10-100 in 13 days
    100 - 1,000 in 8 days
We'll see how many days it takes to get to 10,000 unless our Shelter-In-Place stops the exponential progression.

It doesn't take many increases of 10x to put you in big numbers in a hurry.

Every case will resolve with either our immune system destroying the bug, or, the bug destroying the person they invaded. The only way the infection can continue is if the infected person transmits the disease to another person(s) before they either recover or die.

This factor is measured as Ro. Greater than 1 and the infections are rising. Hold it at less than one and the disease burns out.

At the link is a graph of daily Ro values

    https://www.worldometers.info/coronavirus/coronavirus-cases/#cases-growth-factor

As you can see, of late we're improving, but we haven't yet started chaining together Ro <1 days and we need to chain a few weeks together to throttle this.

    Stay Safe!

    • Stay at home.
    • If you go out, stay 6 feet away from others.
    • Wear gloves or sanitize, or wash your hands after touching surfaces.
    • When you get home, throw your clothes in the wash (wash as warm as possible) and if it's whites use hot water and Clorox. For clothes you can't bleach use Lysol wash additive (Amazon), shower and put on clean clothes.
    • When packages are delivered, disinfect them, as you open it, continue disinfecting. When done, disinfect the surface you opened them on.
    • Don't let people in your house.
It takes a certain load of the virus to cause an infection, and very low exposure may be the difference between a mild case and a serious case, so minimizing what you can't eliminate makes a great deal of sense.

CONTAGION: Days After a Funeral in a Georgia Town, Coronavirus ‘Hit Like a Bomb.’

“Like the Biogen conference in Boston and a 40th birthday party in Westport, Conn., the funeral of Andrew Jerome Mitchell on Feb. 29 will be recorded as what epidemiologists call a ‘super-spreading event,’ in which a small number of people propagate a huge number of infections. . . . With a population of only 90,000, Dougherty County has registered 24 deaths, far more than any other county in the state, with six more possible coronavirus deaths under investigation, according to Michael L. Fowler, the local coroner. Ninety percent of the people who died were African-American, he said. The region’s hospitals are overloaded with sick and dying patients, having registered nearly 600 positive cases. Last week, Gov. Brian Kemp dispatched the National Guard to help stage additional intensive care beds and relieve exhausted doctors and nurses.”

We can think and cooperate, the virus can't, that's why we will win. The smarter we are about slowing transmission, the cheaper the butcher's bill.

    Stay Safe!

I suspect it will take a while to know what the situation will be in the next many months.

We don't know what level of immunity is required by those who live. We don't know for sure how fast it might evolve - though it seems slow according to some. We don't have any treatment at present, and the candidate Trump bragged about has risks associated with it - arhythmia for example. And, it will be many months before any of the candidate vaccines proves to be real.

China (where stats are somewhat in question) started opening up their restrictions and then has clamped down again on some areas. I wonder what that shows.

I'd really like to see a plan created by medical experts in contagious disease along with economists - like what conditions are they looking for before making a move toward relaxing.
