Unemployment here is $390 max a week. I am on involuntary unpaid furlough.

First voucher hit the bank and was $990 which was the $390 + $600. That equates to $24.75 an hour take home for 40 hours for a week. Assuming about 30% taken out for taxes that equates to ~$35 an hour. No wonder folks don't want to go back to work!

"socialism" keeps him afloat, and he still complains. Priceless.

I'm self-employed. Won't see a dime. No low interest loans, no unemployment. Worked 35 years straight.
Nothing but my own savings and a day trading habit - should be good for 30 years unless inflation takes off.

But on this forum, the conservatives call me a commie. Whatever.

Its not that nobody wants to go back to work, its that there are no jobs because millions of people are being laid off every week. Everyone knows these great benefits are temporary and are desperate to get financial security.

The idea is to make so they don't HAVE to go back to work (until the end of July)...and at the same time pump money into the economy.

Either give it back or shut up

Unemployment here is 2/3 of normal income (prolly averaged over a period of time). 3 years ago I had roughly a years worth available (it builds up the longer I stay employed). Then I went and made myself essential to my employer in a job thats essential to municipalities.

    No coronavacation for me...

Wrong. There are jobs but the dems are pissed that if you don’t want to go back to work you might not get unemployment.

Yeah, making more than they pump into the economy makes so much sense.

If there are jobs, why don't you work? Maybe you don't want to work?

There are over 30 million unemployed, and there aren't enough job openings to give them all jobs.

A friends husband was furloughed early april. Took a couple weeks to get signed up for UI. He has turned down two job offers from friends that heard about his turn of luck. The govt offer was better, he makes more staying home, so hes doing some remodeling instead.

When UI provides enough incentive to not work it's a bad thing.

So you agree that all the COVID bailouts are "socialism", right?

So all the economic damage resulting from the bailouts will be the fault of socialism, right?

My kid's boyfriend got laid off from his IT security job, and he took a job doing groundskeeping work at a golf course just to keep some income coming in. He did that for a week until he realized that Uncle Sugar would pay him more to sit on his rump than he was making toiling under the hot Sun for hours a day.

The Democrat dream has been realized, the safety net is a hammock.

I own a brewery. I had to lay off my workers. The unemployment strategy WORKED. Those workers are home...which keeps us all safer...and they have money...which is keeping the economy going until things get back to normal.

AND...when I do open up...they will BE THERE. They will not have moved away or taken other jobs. That will allow me start up when the time is right.

So of course Trumpers scream (even though they're all cashing their checks). Things that make sense are an anathema to them

For millions, there will not be a "work" to go back to by the end of July. Lefties need to understand how the economy keeps the world running and stop whining about their own personal fears.
BTW, Any government checks that our family gets are pledged to go to servers in what remains of the restaurant industry in the form of very, very generous tips.

And by opening up now...we are wasting that cushion

That cushion gave us the ability to wait this thing out...but Trumpers want a haircut

What if the Democrats get their way and your brewery is forced to stay closed until there’s a working vaccine in about a year or so? Will your business still BE THERE?

For how long can your carry a comatose brewery?

Do you really not understand how insulting that is? To dismiss all of the stress and panic people faced with economic hardship are experiencing right now as just a silly and selfish desire for a haircut?

    Frankly, your attitude is disgusting.

There are many, many people who would home dye their hair neon pink, or even shave their heads bald, right now if it would get them back to work.

How is it that you have so little understanding of the situation, if you truly don't realize that the scope of the current COVID situation is far worse than a bad hair day? Just how deeply are you isolated from the real world?

So what is it then? Boredom? Because those out of work have gotten stimulus checks and are getting very generous unemployment checks.

Look I want to get out and play golf and put my boat in the water and go to dinner and all the things you want...but I don't want to DIE because of it

I find YOUR caviler attitude about people dying to be...yea...disgusting

Small businesses have gotten loans to keep them afloat...laid off workers have gotten unemployment benefits...that extend with EXTRA money...until the end of July.

    What are you talking about?

You truly don't understand the financial devastation that's taking place right now. It's just amazing that a person could be so blind to reality.

People are seeing their life's savings, and their life's work, and their hopes for the future wiped out as we speak, and you're talking about haircuts and putting your boat in the water.

What planet do you live on?

Is the sky in your world a rosy pink?

How long can you keep carrying your comatose brewery before the storm clouds of reality darken your skies?
