We're about to hit 100,000 US deaths.
In the coming weeks there will be a spike in deaths and infections because of the selfish re-open crusaders and their disregard for mitigation strategies. People can twist the data all they want but behind those intentionally confounded percentages are Americans who might not have died if arrogance and ignorance had yielded to compassion and intelligence.

Which is 100,000-200,000 less than estimated. We have 1/3 - 1/2 of the deaths we were expected to have and we hit the peak in late April.

Sounds like we’re doing pretty darn good if you ask me.

Excellent news. Remove the 65+ crowd (who should self quarintine anyways) and the numbers are even better! Even my age group is 99.8, which is encouraging!

No doubt there will be a spike in cases, but that was predicted regardless of the "re-opening" of the country.

    I don't think we're colluding with the Indians ;) https://www.npr.org/sections/health...mates-for-severity-of-covid-19-are-optimistic

There are those who are complaining about these numbers, but frankly I think it's arrogant. Essentially they're saying that "What we think is right, and the CDC should follow along.". This is why the scientific community has lagged behind in the last century. Einstein and Edison and others like them had humility, we won't see humility in the scientific community today.

Without humility, there's little room for success in science, only debacles and failures.

100,000 of your countrymen are dead, undoubtedly no small number might still be alive if the selfish and the ignorant and the arrogant just played their role in social distancing, and you say "we're doing pretty darn good".

Funny how you who rally against reopening the economy never and I do mean never Address the dire economic impacts of not reopening. Just simple proof you have no ideal of those impacts.

You must honestly believe that keeping the largest and most complex economy in history has no serious and dire repercussions. Pathetic.

Freedom is scary huh? It’s not free, never has been.
Screw anyone who is willing to trade liberty for security from this virus. The cowardly French did, and they have the papers to show their govt if needed when out in public!! Just like in the early 1940s!

That is an plea based on emotion and not facts.

"No small number" is a completely subjective assessment. What, specifically, would that number be and how do you provide empirical evidence of that number? You can't. You can't even provide evidence of your general assertion.

The only number we can actually assess are the elderly that was sent to nursing homes, and THAT was all due to government actions.

People die every day in this world. Dying is a fact of living. My own mother died of cancer in my arms at age 54 so I have first hand experience. It was tragic, but I don't hold on to inane abstractions like "no small number" because of this. It is irrational.

People need to live. Most will social distance on their own responsibly, some will not. I am not worried about them, I am worried about me. Whether you like it or not, it is not your right to dictate to others how to live their lives, short of them directly violating your natural right to life. Using the monopoly of force that is government to infringe upon their right to life is no justification.

We are at almost 3-times the average annual flu death count in 2 months, and that includes locking down the economy. How long are you going to keep up the "it is just like flu" spiel?

BTW: Why does your title say 0.2% and your post says 0.4% Which is it? Where is the citation to the CDC?

Over 7,000 people die a day in American on average. Nothing to do with C19. Just life happening.

If people want to stay home they can, no liberties violated. Not forced to do a damn thing by anyone, the way it should be.

Forcing other to stay home, a lot of liberties violated.

It’s clear which ideology is selfish and which is not.

    Hey I remember you!

You were supporting the poster who says we would lose more American lives from C19 than we did from WW2.

Yall were both wrong...way way wrong. As in not even 25% correct. That pretty bad gussin!

When this hysterical virus narrative falls apart what else are you left wingers going to have to scare people with? I can smell the same desperation as every other bullcrap lame arsed attempt of the last 4 years.

Compared to where we were expected to be we are doing good.

By the way... he who is willing to sacrifice freedom for security will receive none and deserves neither.

Look at the actual numbers. Time to go back to some semblance of normal.

This is absolute bull**** and I think you know it. People are not "rallying against reopening the economy," they are worried about the repercussions of opening too soon. You can not fix the "dire economic impacts" of the economy shutting down without addressing the reasons that those people are worried.
