Sure it’s within their right to do so, but it also disqualifies them from asserting “neutrality” and the governmental protections that come along with it. Which are also not a right.
I doubt any court is going to uphold the anti-speech Trumpist pet theories on the subject. Hell, I doubt the rest of the executive branch will even entertain them. This will remain another childish Trumper tantrum that falls by the wayside.
Please, please, Trump, you should definitely shut down social media platforms. That would be incredible. Talk about cutting off your nose to spite your face.
It’s killing the normal Republicans. Seriously this has to just eat at a conservative like Mike Pence. I don’t see a lot of Dems complaining though. They probably love it. And there goes net neutrality. Review sites are screwed. Liability coming their way!
We don’t need to imagine. That person is Trump, and he’s upset that Twitter has the gall to point out that he’s being untruthful.
The truth IS neutral. If all Twitter is doing is pointing out when a Tweet is untruthful and pointing people in the direction of the facts, they are being neutral. The problem for Trump is that he lies and he wants to be allowed to continue to lie without anyone pointing out his lies. He is using the office of the president to force a private company to help him spread lies. That is an attack on the first Amendment and his supporters love it. I’m really surprised that so many people who claim to be conservatives suddenly hate the constitution.
Actually they have been giving Trump a pass until now so you could say they are now showing neutrality
no President Trump could use the war powers act to nationalise twitter. a private company cannot censor the Commander in Chief
Where do you folks get that he’s even remotely considering shutting down social media programs? He’s simply taking away their government protections which other companies don’t get.
But that’s not all they’re doing that’s the ENTIRE point. They’re selectively “fact-checking” (with AT BEST dubious fact checkers) the people with whom they disagree and letting the people they agree with lie through their teeth on a consistent basis. That’s not neutrality.
What are you talking about? To receive the legal protections from lawsuits which they receive by being a neutral entity. Is there anybody here who can honestly claim with a straight face Twitter and their fact checkers are neutral? Give me a ****ing break.
Twitter is censoring the President of the United States (and let me be clear, I do not like his tweets at all), but they don't censor Colin Kaepernick when he tweets for "justified" violence in Minneapolis. Please. Someone tell me Twitter's actions aren't political! I need a good laugh for today.
Twitter seems to have done something last night (I don't know what "hid the message" means) to one of Trumps idiot posts about the Floyd situation... He doesn't seem happy, which automatically makes me happy https://news.yahoo.com/trump-attacks-twitter-says-section-111500147.html P.S. I don't believe Twitter's actions are political as such. They are interpreting their own rules as they see fit.
I love how Trump defended Social Media when it served him in 2016. They call him on his literal lies in 2020 and he throws a tantrum and wants to “regulate” them.He wants his speech to be free, but not yours. This guy is just nuts.
What got censored ? His Tweet is still there in its original form and NOTHING was changed in his tweet. Twitter ADDED their disclaimer.
Ahh.. I got the hid the message thing now.. SNIP Twitter did not remove the tweet, saying it had determined it might be in the public interest to have it remain accessible. It does that only for tweets by elected and government officials. But the tweet was hidden so that a user looking at Trump's timeline would have to click on the warning to see the original tweet. ENDSNIP
Grapey, what do think about the hidden tweet last night?? My posts 141 and 145... Still not censorship, correct? This whole situation reminds me of the boy who loves honey attacking a bee hive for it...
You cannot believe your P.S. as the truth with Kap's post not being censored. Realistically, whether we like it or not, the President's tweet is fact as the National Guard takes up the streets of Minneapolis and Kap's tweet is a call to incite violent behavior against authorities: "When civility leads to death, revolting is the only logical reaction. The cries for peace will rain down, and when they do, they will land on deaf ears, because your violence has brought this resistance. We have the right to fight back!"
