When the mayor of a city sides with the rioters and agrees to "dismantle" the police.... what don't you comprehend?

The same people are buying into the idea that we don't send criminals to jail, that we decriminalize a wide variety of crimes.
The trash in Atlanta is demanding the woman who set fire to the Wendy's be released, not prosecuted.
More criminals on the street are a solution to what? Dissatisfaction of our criminal segment?
You're making a ludicrous argument, a genuinely left-think foggy swamp gas kind of thing.

Find any major element of our system that has been "dismantled" and replaced with something more successful.
It's NOT something we do; anymore than we would set fire to the car when a tire goes flat and revert to a horse and buggy. We fix the tire. Similar issue.

I am talking about funding the government period. I am not
I am not the one who wants to defund the government. I did know a libertarian who actually believed that every function of the government could be be provided by private business or private donations. But that was in my high school political science club that this expressed that radical extreme belief. Maybe by now he found some smarts!

Extreme liberals want to defund the military. Some RW extremists want to defund SS and Medicare. Others want to defund the Department of education, but the worst of the extremists want to only fund faith based schools.

I have not even spoken about comparing private and public sectors because defunding is a concept that applies to both. . Policing itself tends to be done publicly so that government can contain direct control. . I think cities can take a look contracting out some support services such as secretarial etc, to reduce budgets I suppose.

"Policing"? What exactly does that entail?

Stop with the generalizations and hyberbole. You are going to end up wetting your self. This discussion is not about any specific city, or any specific plan. Its about what 'defunding' means and it has shown it means a reduction in funding. Any budget that is getting a cut in funding, is being 'defunded'. So when you apply it to police departments it means the same thing. I do like your metaphor. We take our cars to junkyards all the time to have them dismantled. But we make sure we have another car, hopefully better built, with a newer engine and a streamlined body that will out-perform the car we are dismantling. Often we well have two cars for awhile one in which we are putting money t repair, and another we no longer intend to invest in, because our long term vision is to ditch the pile of crap sitting in our driveway anyway. Got it?

I don't know where you are going with this line of questioning. Until I do, I will refuse to play twenty questions.

It was posse comitatus back then. Law and order had no meaning, just whatever the mob wanted....like lynching. At least we, in the US, have the right to guns, though the left wants that taken away as well.

I assume by "policing" you mean 1) the services that are provided by private investigatord and 2) the services provided by security guards. Am I right?

No. I feel like we are misunderstanding each other . By policing, I am referring to activities engaged by a body sanctioned by local, state, or national government to enforce laws and apprehend those who break them either private or public. I think those jobs need to be done in any community and that is virtually impossible to do without them. That does not mean it needs to be structured as a traditional police department currently is. When it comes to apprehending and investigating crime, by and large I feel more comfortable with my government take on the responsibility directly. Support staff can be contracted out

So are you talking about a court system designed to try criminals and adjudicate civil cases?

I can include that too if you like, but again I feel more comfortable with my government supplying those services than some private company. I am still not sure where this line is coming from, or heading towards.

Sure. Me too. Agreed. I'm talking about investigative work and personal protection work. Not sure why the private sector can't do that better.

Consistency in policy and procedure in investigatory work, is pretty important to the DA's office when you are going into court with a chain of evidence and experts and the burden is beyond a reasonable doubt. That is not happening with 4 or 5 separate private companies with their own staffing standards, doing the training on wildly disparate policies and procedures.

And why can't that be done by private sector firms?

I have to chuckle at how a democrat policy gets released and then some serious footwork begins to try and do damage control. This is what is referred to as crawfishing.....

Something democrats do quit a bit.....

Okay, re-read it a few times. So why can't a private firm perform that function?

With an electronic device at their fingertips at time of posting, one would think one would look up a definition of a word before posting about it. At least so they don't come off as not knowing the topic.
