This should take up 90% of the news but a rarely see it given much time either there or on here tbh. Where our money goes and who politicians are negotiating for is my personal number 1 priority. I generally fall in line with conservatives culturally as that how I was raised in the midwest but my pocketbook rates higher to me and the way this pandemic funding has been done makes it clear to me that me and middle and low income classes aren't even an afterthought to Trump and McConnell
Seems like most of them (I hate to ever say all about any group) are more interested in talking about what I view as distraction topics
We should be very concerned that the establishment Dems signed onto this knowing full well that this would play out as it has. I want them all out and after Biden gets in we should work on getting rid of him and the rest of the corporate owned garbage who are very responsible in their own right for the rise of Trump.
Isn't the story here that small businesses qualified for and received loans under a small business loan stimulus? Or is there more to the story that I'm not aware of.
If that was true then why this? "Epiq Global released bankruptcy filings statistics today from its AACER business unit that shows commercial Chapter 11 filings were up 48% in May as compared to May 2019 with a total of 724 new petitions, and up 30% over April with 165 new petitions. " https://www.globenewswire.com/news-...ilings-up-48-in-May-Compared-to-Year-Ago.html Or this? "As many as 653,000 small businesses that were awarded forgivable, 1% loans from the Paycheck Protection Program could begin cutting employees as early as next month as their federal funding runs out. What's more, 70,000 of those businesses are expected to lay off at least 10 workers each." https://www.cbsnews.com/news/payche...ll-businesses-plan-layoffs-despite-ppp-funds/
You are excluding what the unemployment numbers would look like if we didn't have a stimulus. Let me guess, you support the government shutting down the economy for public health, yet oppose a stimulus to mitigate the turmoil that shutdown caused. Do you own a business?
"You are excluding what the unemployment numbers would look like if we didn't have a stimulus." Respectfully how can we use an unknown in this discussion? "Let me guess, you support the government shutting down the economy for public health, yet oppose a stimulus to mitigate the turmoil that shutdown caused." Nope I dont support a nationwide shutdown as alot of peoples health and well being are tied directly to their jobs. I will say the measures passed and being floated now dont seem to be targeting the people who sustained the most hardship and least ability to bounce back. Like payroll tax cuts and vacation tax credits
I try to be open minded and if you have information to the contrary I am more than willing to listen. My goal is to gain more knowledge 1st and win a debate 2nd
If small businesses were helped substantially by the government then why the 48% increase in chapter 11 bankruptcies? Also as to the core reasons for giving these businesses money laying off people massively it seems that may have been a poor choice in hindsight. If these businesses were going to layoff anyway wouldn't it have been better to give our tax dollars directly to the citizens instead of through a middle man solely or mostly concerned with their bottom line?
Agree that I would rather have cashed a big fat check (that I didnt need) myself. But an increase in bankruptcies doesnt mean any particular program was a failure, Congress would probably argue that they should spend more. If you were in business you'd understand that payroll is only one part of business expenses. Cant save them all.
The intent was always to give at least an order of magnitude more money to the super-duper uber-rich than to people who needed it.
Was the intent to save the businesses or the people? Because the money would've been better suited going directly to the people and with their extra spending money and enough to not go broke the influx of cash on hand could've gone to those businesses us citizens chose through our pocket books. Giving money just to see them lay off anyway seems like a very inefficient way to handle the situation...... almost purposefully imo
I dont need to be in business to understand that lol it's just common sense.... the senate doesn't seem to be arguing that though
You expected bankruptcies to fall to zero? This is a pandemic with months of forced shutdowns, in case you forgot. That tends to have a financial impact
Either that or it was crafted in such a haphazard way that that is an unintended consequence.... I dont buy that idea myself
I expect it to be talked about since I thought (maybe mistakenly) that a core part of what makes America great was small businesses. Statistics say they are hurting immensely and yet the administration seems to not want to help them compete with the mega corporations (who Coincidentally probably help china the most by way of chinese manufacturing outsourcing).. smythe message from my vantage point is jobs done open up economy and talk about bs culture war crap instead of coming back to help these small businesses
It's the Democrats, as usual, who are trying to torpedo small businesses and the economy. Covid is a virus like any other. It has a disproportionately harmful effect upon certain "at risk" groups of people, but beyond that it is "business as usual" as viruses go. That being the case, there is no valid rationale to justify shutting down the economy. It is nothing more than pure politics. But, since the left controls the media, all of our major institutions, and most of the levers of power - they have the power to do as much damage as they like - and they are.
"That being the case, there is no valid rationale to justify shutting down the economy." We in this thread aren't talking about that
Case in point Trump talking about numbers looking great and then talking about Nasdaq numbers, they have the luxury to look that these things simply as number but for poor people it's there lives they aren't able to bounce back as fast as those with liquidity
You were talking about small businesses, and the fact that they are being shuttered. That is intentional on the part of the Democrats. As I posted earlier, I own a small business and I received a ppp loan. I've been lucky so far - my business hasn't fallen off at all. That said, the circumstances under which all of this is taking place are fabricated. The Dems are trying to milk this - and do as much damage as possible - in an effort to oust Trump. There is also a longer term game afoot, but that is a far-reaching subject. As I said in my earlier post, I would not have taken the ppp loan if I expected our country to survive. I fully expect that America will no longer exist under our current Constitution within 10 years. I took the loan b/c I see calamity ahead, and it is intentional.
We’ve received roughly 15% of the data and know why, pure unadulterated corruption by our Treasury. We know now why they resisted oversight, added franchises, etc.
