The topic is whether calling a woman a bitch is sexist. The comparison is bastard. The simple fact (lol at you thinking this is sophistry...) is that both bitch and bastard are sometimes applied to both genders. If bitch is sexist against women, bastard would be sexist against men. If bastard isnt sexist against men, then bitch isn't sexist against women. Yoho is demonstrably either a jerk or easily emotionally manipulated. But theres nothing demonstrably 'anti-women' about his outburst.
Lolwut? Talk about Completely MISSING the Point and attempting to Compare Apples to Oranges. Just Wow. :smh: The other people that you mentioned were Democrats attacking a Sitting President. That is Completely DIFFERENT from what Yoho did to AOC. Yoho made a Condescending Misogynistic Remark (to an Elected Colleague who held the same office that he did). There is no actual comparison (whatsoever), in your FAILED attempt at "Equivalency". And any attempt to conflate the 2 situations, is beyond misguided.
"Yoho... Yoho... A dou*chebag's life for me" https://www.google.com/search?q=yoh...0l3j69i60l3.9979j0j7&sourceid=chrome&ie=UTF-8 I was trying to come up with full Yoho related lyrics, but it's not exactly a Paul McCartney song there....
AOC deserves just as much consideration as does Yoho. In fact, as a member of the minority party and a male I don't really understand how anyone could think that Yoho did anything but make himself look like a clown and present problems for his cohorts. Republicans should have responded. Do they really need to be seen as even MORE disrespetful of women?
On the one hand, I do see your point! I'm sitting here having a hard time coming up with some other way to say "f'ing b*tch" without cuss words which has the same impact as "f'ing b*tch", LOL! "Awful woman" just doesn't have the same impact. I mean, if the dictionary was going to have a picture illustrating "f'ing b*tch", AOC (or Pelosi) would be perfect choices.
You can disagree with AOC's policy statements. After that, you need to do some explaining, because all I see from you right now is hate for a person. What I don't like about this "nothingburger" is that a Representative carried out a vulgar sexist verbal assault against another Reprsentative, then lied about it, and then tried to excuse himself by saying he has a wife and daughter - as if THAT would make any difference.
Actually cussing someone out can be beneficial on occasion. Especially when they're being extremely stupid and refuse to see it until you do yell at them. Besides, do you really consider Dems and Repubs as a team right now? When have they ever been an actual team?
That you think that there is a difference shows just how blindly partisan you are. Calling people names is calling people names. Doesn't matter what party you belong to or what position you hold in life. Calling people names is calling people names.
It's my experience you rarely make a point other than orange man bad. I usually breeze past your posts. This one came as an alert.
Exactly. Great post. But, regarding Yoho (while not excusing his Egregiously Misogynistic Remarks which Deserve Censure) I can (on some level) imagine his mindset (when lashing out). Poor Yoho, one could understand why: Yoho--A FAT, BALD, Middle-Aged LOSER would feel threatened by an Exotic Gorgeous Young Woman that he would never stand a chance with. While not excusing his behavior, I can (on some level) understand his frustration.
No, that is only part of it. The rest is that Yoho lied and tried to propose that the fact that he has a wife and daughters is evidence that he didn't lie. The rest of the issue is that as much as you don't like someone's policy, our government works when people work together - NOT when they start hurling sexist epithets.
Yoho was merely expressing his hate, sexism and willingness to lie. Suggesting that was a positive step for America is about as stupid an idea as could POSSIBLY be proposed. I see congress as needing to start working together. And, Yoho does not. Remember that under Obama and with a Democratic House and Senate the direction chosen WAS TO WORK TOGETHER. The major issues facing congress were NEGOTIATED in BIPARTISAN COMMITTEES. That ended when Republicans took over.
I seem to remember Republicans being called the "Party of No" while Obama was in office. Now suddenly they worked together in bipartisan committees? .
Thats not sexist either. The only part of this thread I've been in disagreement with is the assertion of sexism. AOC is very much a bitch (or an *******, if you think bitch is sexist), but that doesn't mean Yoho needs to be stopping her in the hallway to say so- that is, indeed, counterproductive drama bullshit, and makes him just as 'bitchy' (or assholish) himself. Now that we've got that out of the way... Can you explain how what Yoho did is sexist?
As if everything was butterflies and kittens and group hugs before Yoho called a b*tch a b*tch AOC is about as divisive and polarizing as they come. She's as bad as Pelosi or Obama or any of the rest of them. It is ridiculously naive to act like suddenly nobody is going to be able to get along or work together now because of Yoho's comment Nobody's been getting along much already ---- partly because of "f'ing b*tches" like AOC, but not because of b*tches being called b*tches. Enough of playing victim.
The topic is more than that. The topic is that Yoho verbally assaulted a member of the House of Representatives, then lied about it a speech before the House, then tried to support his lie by claiming he would never do such a thing in front of his daughters (or however he precisely put it). He tried to excuse his disgusting behavior by claiming he has daughters! And, he did so to try to support his lie. She did NOT complain about being called the disgusting epithets by Yoho.
You don't even know what the heck you're talking about. Starting from her first words, AOC pointed out that she is not complaining about the verbal asssault by Yoho. She points out how she has grown to accept that kind of behaior. What she objected to is that Yoho lied byefore the House and thew his family under the bus as part of his defense. Yoho needs to be up front about it. He needs to admit that he lied before the House and that the fact that he has daughters who are essentially AOC's age is NOT an impediment to his blatant sexism.
You keep moving the goal posts in an attempt to justify your offense, and it's becoming tedious. YOU claimed that you were concerned that people wouldn't be able to work together now because they can't get along I showed you how foolish that was. You've beaten this dead horse long enough and AOC's worn out her victim card whining for another 15 seconds of attention whoring fame.
The only part of your OP I've been in disagreement with is the assertion of sexism. AOC is very much a bitch (or an *******, if you think bitch is sexist), but that doesn't mean Yoho needs to be stopping her in the hallway to say so- that is, indeed, counterproductive drama bullshit, and makes him just as 'bitchy' (or assholish) himself. They're both bitches, *******s, bastards, w/e IDC pick one, they all have a similar enough meaning. Now that we've got that out of the way... Can you explain how what Yoho did is sexist?
You certainly did no such thing. And, yes. Anyone who thinks that Yoho's attitude of lies and insults is something is part of a cooperative problem solving effort is just plain NUTS. What's having you confused is that my issues aren't necessarily limited to the issues AOC expressed. While she claims she can ignore the disgusting sexist remarks of Yoho, I don't. And, while she can not ignore the Yoho lie before congress and his additional sexist pleas that he couldn't have said what he said because he has daughters (??), I do agree. Sorry you got confused. Maybe I could have been clearer.
Since you don't agree with her policy, it appears you feel free to switch from policy to vulgar ad hom. Maybe you can win with that, right? And, you feel free to accept Yoho's blatant lie before congress and his claim that he couldn't have said that, because he has a wife and daughters - clear sexism. Sorry - I don't respect that. And, when the president models that kind of behavior I lose respect for him, too.
What part of "that doesn't mean Yoho needs to be stopping her in the hallway to say so- that is, indeed, counterproductive drama bullshit, and makes him just as 'bitchy' (or assholish) himself" led you to believe that I "feel free to switch from policy to vulgar ad hom"? Not sure whether you're not even reading what I said or if you're just trying to put words in my mouth... I'm not interested in speculating about whose lying in this he-said-she-said drama bullshit. They're politicians. Its likely they're both lying. Im only interested in why you think there was sexism involved. And now Im also interested in if/how you're going to try to demonstrate that "the president models that kind of behavior"....
I misinterpreted what you said. I apologize. I'm pretty solidly against our congressmen using ad hom on each other. I think it does actual damage. I see AOC called that a LOT, and it usually includes references to her policy. I don't believve these people would be ok with her unless she let them run over her as the little girl from Brooklynn. I dont believe that makes her a bidtch and I don't believe she's going to fold to the likes of Yoho. It's not speculation. The event was witness by a reporter who reported the event independently. AOC was going to brush it off. She spoke out only after Yoho lied about the reported encounter. ??? How many quotes do you want? 50? 60? A hundred? How about this while campaigning against Carly Fiorina: "Look at that face. Would anybody vote for that? Can you imagine that, the face of our next president? I mean, she's a woman, and I'm not supposed to say bad things, but really, folks, come on. Are we serious?" [Sept. 9, 2015 But, go ahead and ask for more. Maybe the one about "blood coming from her ... wherever". Maybe one of the ones on using his position to walk in on women while they are changing. Remember his "answers" to Rosie O'Donnell? Remember his treatment of EVERY female reporter in the press briefing room?
And yet when that asshead called Marsha Blackburn "inbred racist trash" the same people who are trashing Yoho blew that off. The hypocrisy continues.
